Best Agaricus Bisporus substrate
    #19039156 - 10/27/13 02:20 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys, so I bought this Swiss brown mushroom kit a while ago and it fruited okay but not exactly outstanding, it's starting to die down now but I was thinking of just taking the mycelium and transferring it to some fresh substrate, in theory would that work? And if so what should I transfer it to?

Thanks in advance, peace

The button mushroom is a secondary decomposer and loves to eat compost. If you can whip up some good compost that's the best something like some horse dung, wood chips, grass,  leaves, a little dirt dont hurt etc. I havent tried this, but seems right

i would put it all in a steep and packed pile, water it and turn it every couple days to get the desired compost quickly.

Once it the big bits have broken into little tiny bits and the soil turns color closer to black, pasteurize it and inoculate. i think A. Bisporus benefits from a casing layer during fruiting.

Next, try some wood lovers like oyster, shiitake, lions mane, enoki, reishi or others. they are all fun and making the substrate is much easier. pasteurized, hydrated sawdust is all it takes and the mushrooms imho are much tastier and also more medicinally active. :awesome:

Awesome! I already have compost and a worm farm going! I'll post pictures if it succeeds
