Humidifier while drying
    #19038563 - 10/26/13 11:01 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey, I am drying mushrooms in my house. They are in a hollowed out computer shell in the top of my closet (with no doors) with a pretty powerful computer fan running on them.

Well, last night there was a fire in my room so I am using a humidifier filled with vinegar in order to drown out the terrible smoke smell.

Is this going to affect my mushrooms negatively? Or should the fan and computer case be fine?

Thanks

You'll probably want some silica packets and some tupper ware to store them in once they're dry. Speaking of which I need both of those things for mine..

What kind of fire was it, and how long did it burn? The humidifier might affect your mushrooms, computer fans aren't very powerful and the extra moisture could counteract the weak drying.

Take them out and smell them and the computer case. If it smells like electronics or mushrooms, then you're good. Use the windows in your house to get rid of the smoke smell.

If you live with your parents, open your window, open a window on the same floor close in proximity to your room, and keep your door open with a fan in the window for a few hours.

Awesome, I actually managed to bring them to a friends house. My dresser caught on fire and there was a ton of smoke, but the mushies didn't smell or taste bad.

Im listening to the XX right now by the way

Grab a little packet of damp-rid from the store for like $3 and then make yourself a drying chamber

I let mine dry a bit on a fan (a few hours) then toss em into the aforementioned drying chamber to get the last bit of moisture out

Some of mine spent a good 48 hours in front of the fan, just cause I kept tossing new ones on there and had no where to put the ones that were already dry. I'll certainly be picking up some silica packets to toss in my baggie soon though.
