Hi all, your friendly Neighborhood Psyderman here. I recently came to the realization that I missed Mushroom cultivation and decided to start back up, just like riding a bike really. My last grow was 5 years ago, back when I was really interested in Microbiology. I have helped a few friends over the years with their own grows and it was great fun. So now to document my own that I started 27 days ago(Sep 30).
I read up on the forums all of September just to make sure I remembered everything and was prepared for everything. I decided to be daring and try teks I had never done before.
Inoculation Medium:WBS Strain Selection:B+(MS)and Keepers Creepers(MS) I had never done WBS before, I stuck mainly to Popcorn and BRF. But my friends had done WBS and I saw great results. I inoculated 8 pint jars with B+ and another 8 with Keepers Creepers. I also decided to make an LC of each with the leftover 2mls of each syringe.
100% colonization took about 8-9 days (Oct 7-8) for all jars. On day 10(Oct 9)I decided to I was going to go for a bulk grow, so I went out and grabbed the materials I needed.
Bulk Substrate: 50% Hay Straw 40% Coir 10% Hpoo 5% Gypsum
I soaked the straw over night.
Day 11 (Oct 10) I expanded my coir with a worm castings tea and mixed in the Hpoo and gypsum. I used oven bags to pasteurize my coir substrate in the oven for 3 hours at 160 deg. Straw was pasteurized on the stove top in a pot at 160 deg for 1 hour. After the hour I transferred the straw to a 5 gallon paint strainer and allowed it to cool and drain for a few hours. Once both subs were cool I mixed up the straw and coir and spread them evenly at 3 inches into two Sterilite mono tubs. One for the B+ and one for the KC.I mixed each set of 8 jars into their respective tubs and mixed thoroughly.
As a side note: I have never done mono tubs before nor straw. My old method used to be a Martha with an 40%Hpoo/40%coir/20%verm/5%coffee grounds sub.
Side note Two: I also discovered at this time that I have horrible allergies to straw and developed a upper respiratory infect due to my interaction with the straw. Yay!!
Mono tubs: 100% Colonization time for the tubs 7-8 days (Oct 17 -18) I stuffed the tubs with poly-fil on Oct 19th to initiate fruiting conditions . I also started a whole new round of WBS Jars for my next grow, which were noc'd up with the LC I had made( No contams in any jars...Woot!)
Visible pinning took about 4 days. and I got a massive amount of side pins because I did not line my tubs. Now to the Pics, because I finally decided to take some.
B+ tub (Oct 24):

KC tub (Oct 24):

(Oct 26):

Welp that is it so far. I am probably forgetting info I wanted to add in here but I guess this is an Ok first post. I'll post back with final weight of first flush for each tub.
27 days to viable fruits isn't so bad, right?

WTF!!!? I Can't even get a BRF jar to colonize in 27 days!!! Holy cow this tek has got my attention!
Can You do this without the hpoo is there any substitute?
So did you just skip G2G transfer all together and inoculate 8 grain jars? If I were using MS syringes how many CCs would I use per jar?

I essentially followed this tek for WBS
Syringes were MS at about 1cc per Jar. Kept at ambient air temp of 79-80.
The Bulk sub I just kinda made up off the top of my head as it is what I had at the time. If you don't have Hpoo you could probably substitute with worm castings. Used this Calculator to get my measurements for preparation.
No G2G yet, but maybe in the future once I get a decent isolate. Though GLC has really piqued my interest.
Just curious what temp are you incubating at for your BRF? Are the jars exposed to light? What lid tek are you using for GE and inoculation?
