silly ramblings
    #1903594 - 09/11/03 01:24 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

im in one of those moods where ive been deep in thought and pondering some stuff like...who am i? why do i think the way i do? tonight i just realized i was an atheist. a weak atheist. im trying to control my thoughts and focusing on them find there roots, like where they started and, why they started? and why am i the way i am? heres a small story...do atheists meditate? well, i guess i do, so, anyway i was outside today with my shirt off b/c, it was sooo nice outside, and i was meditating outside and the gnats kept on bothering me and biting me....and it was kinda bumin me out...but after i meditatied, i layed back on the grass streched out as far as i could, and just stared up at the sky and the cloads and said to myself, "ah perspective.....changing my perspective" then i thought about the gnats and how they were bothering me...but then i thought, "these gnats didnt come just to bother and bite me, but insead they came to greet and kiss me," i liked thinking that....

Ahhh.. you've hit on one of the keys of understanding right there..following the chain of cause and effect link by link until you reach the primordial cause. At that point you may find yourself dropping the atheist label.

No matter what your conclusions are, I encourage you to continue on that train of thought. It is indeed a form of meditation and can provide many answers for you on many subjects that puzzle you now.

i used to do something similar, which i havent thought of in a long time. i'd try and remember the convo or thought train i'd just had and work backwards, seeing how i made connections between thoughts and where they stemmed from and what made me think of what etc.

i havent done this in a long time, consciously.

I agree with you guys replies to the original post

and i'd like to add that thinking about animals with patience like the flys that bother us and stuff is a really great quality and rare in our society...

i usually dont kill anything and recently I killed a black widdow in my room as we were cleaning it out - old tendancy... but I realized that they need compassion like any other being and so I relocated a couple i have found since then...they were the last type of animal which I was ingrained to kill and I figure I will be less likely to be bit now that I show them compassion.

I was watching a fly yesterday eat the sweat off of my hand and then take a big dookie and i was kind of glad I could provide it some food... amazing creatures which I cant even begin to comprehend except as putting myself in their position...

sometimes I look at the grass and imagine the millions of worlds out there and the organisms which exist in it...

this world has alot of life ! its truely amazing... I guess its to show us to stop being so selfish in thinking that we are the most important life force or most intelligent...without all that other life we wouldnt be here! I think all life permiates with the same creative light

True... my friends all sort of laughed at me when I would let the masquitos feed on me. Let them get their fill then shew them off.
Its a nice test of patience to ggo out one summer night disrobe and just sit there. And let what ever happen happen. Its a good way of
mental training to be more tolerant of all the little pains in life.

This reminds me of an old zen poem... it goes soemthing like:
