for the next 2 weeks you need to be on a 40mg schedule, not all at once, you want half in the morning and the rest through the day, after 2 weeks, drop back to 30mg for a couple of weeks. from there, do a 5mg reduction every 2 weeks until you're at 5mg per day, then cut that by half and then stop
it's a difficult task but I have faith that you can stick to this schedule

nah i said it's virtually impossible. you still can but it takes a pretty ridiculous amount if you don't mix it with other depressants.
you're more likely to kill yourself from doing something stupid while on them

Temazapam is weak compared to clonazapam or alprazalam. It is considered more of a sedative hypnotic than a benzo, and mainly prescribed for sleep. For Benzo W/D u need Phenobarbital. At least thats what is generally given in a hospital setting IME

Tamazepam is what valum breaks down into. Valum is twice as strong as tamazepam.

doc from wa. had pethidine and serious diazepam (100mg+/day) problems in my early years. it's a hard road - no other drug i have ever had a tolerance to is more difficult to come off. pethidine and methadone was a walk in the park compared to diazepam. find a sympathetic doctor (one you can really talk to) especially one who specializes in addiction medicine (there are quiet a few around). be completely honest about how much you take. it's a long and gradual process but you and your doc can work out a schedule that will slowly allow you to reduce you dosage without going round the bend with overwhelming anxiety and so on. enter into an agreement with your doc that you promise to only ever see him/her for benzos - i.e. promise you'll never see another doc for scripts. arrange for your pharmacist to only dispense what you how been scheduled for i.e. get your doc to write scripts that specify exactly when and how much can be filled so you don't have excess pills lying around that are too tempting to take. get small amounts of pills at a time, say 4-5 days worth. some of the new SSRI anti-depressants can also help. Likewise, drugs called beta-blockers (e.g. propranolol) help with the physical symptoms like racing heart and sweats. be careful not to substitute alcohol for diazepam. try and get at least some exercise each day - doesn't have to be much but it really does help. it will take at least a few months but if you reduce in a controlled and per-determined way then it's very possible. when you are completely off them you'll look back and realise what a blur they make your life. i wish you the very best and i'm sure that with determination, some great and understanding friends and a good doc you'll get there. christian
