Better hope it is a male cat, as Panaeolus is a masculine genus.

All genera are either masculine or feminine.  Species epithets in masculine genus have to end in a masculine suffix, while epithets in feminene genera have to end in a female suffix.

This is why, for example, when Volvariella gloiocephala was moved from a female genus into the masculine Volvopluteus, the new combination became Volvopluteus gloiocephalus.

You can check the sex of a genus on mycobank.

Lol...welcome to the world of owning cats ... I had one all my life till I moved out, they are super clingy when they are young, but they become way more independent as they get older.... I wouldn't see my cat for a full day sometimes, when she was older  I just stick to dogs now tho.... I love my mini Labrador! Not really "mini" in the sense of tiny but still half the size of a normal lab....and by far, the smartest animal I have ever owned!

Yea cats are like that I noticed too. Your dog sounds cool! I know my black labs I had were smart as whips!
This cat is ok just needs some attention. I got a big heart. I will make it a good home and try to train it as a cat that meows when it needs to go out and stays away from the highway right outside my front door! If it gets hit it gets hit. Theres neighborhood cats around here that know whats up. It will learn. Until its older ima keep an eye on it. Those alley cats will kill it if its a male.
I went back out for a while and heres what I saw. I got updates on those pins too I will post in a min on the threac they are on
1. Thinking Entoloma or Hypoloma pin they were everywhere, have been the past month on thar hillside.

2. Nice little gang of probably Galerinas

3. Some purple cup fungus?

4. Dunno Galerina maybe?

Galerina? Maybe Pholiota

Bonus pics Panaeolus. Ill bet its a female

I would have thought a dog was many times more work than a cat! They just mind their own business and you don't have to look after them. They explore while you do. Dogs need constant attention!

Took it in the woods today. It did real good! Instincts are strong in this kitten! It was scaling the dead trees and keeping up real well. Once in a while i would have to call it and it would run to me and catch up. The only other time it didnt come when I called it was when it chased a chipmunk into a hole!

That is one chunky kitty.  I'm thinking it's got some fancy blood in there...  Perhaps a bit of russian blue?  They've got a short thick coat and are kinda chunky cats.

She's a doll.

Lmao yeah shes chubby. Wont stop wanting to eat either!  She ate everything I gave her and then begged for more. Im trying not to feed it too much but the strange part is I havent seen it poo or pee! I did have it outside today coulda went when I wasnt looking. Anyhow Ive been carrying it to the homemade litter box I made of newspaper everytime it looks like its trying to hide somewhere. It jumps right back out. I let it outside and it walked a foot or so and came back in. Its constantly attached at the hip lol. I am not used to a little kitten sleeping on my stomach and neck all night.

You can come visit me and Vaginata uncle Jet-li lol i think im still calling her Pan for now  by then maybe I will have it trained to be a badass mushroom hunting killing machine lol. U know it will end up being the lazy Garfield type cat. I almost thought to name her Nermal   :sniperkitty:

And avoid feeding her lasagna. Or you end up with this:

She eats what I kindly refer to as cat crack.
It's this flash frozen turkey, she goes nuts for it.
She wakes me up around 6 every morning meowing and scratching the drawer I keep them in.
I have given up repainting it because she just tears it off within a week:rofl:
I'd bet you could use something like those for training yours to hunt mushrooms.

Got Pan a litter box today and some kitty food. I put it in the box dunno if it will actually use it yet. I took it for a ride earlier and it was a scaredy cat! Kept crawling. Behind the console and under the seats. Meow! Meeeooow! Raoww! Strange I take it on the quad and its scared but dont meow.

Definitely think its a female now. Theres another cat with a flea collar thats lurking about. It was an orange striped cat full grown. I think male I ran him off. Ive seen this cat swatting at minnows in my pond before on more than one occasion. It usually cowars before I can look it in the eyes. This time it was seriously interested in the kitten. No doubt going to have to try and get her spaded.

Can you weigh her?  They say you can get 'em neutered at 3 lbs but if possible I like to wait until they go through one heat.  You must be prepared to lock her down for a week if you go that route.  One slip and you've got kittens.  I think they make a better cat if they have a litter but there's too damned many cats so don't do that!  But I'm convinced neutering too young arrests both their physical and mental maturity, cats I had done young were all subpar, needy, suckly, whiny...

No doubt there's a cheap spay solution where you are.  When there was no cheap neuter solution here the neuter scooter would come periodically, sign up online, females were about $50.  My neighbors were starving some kittens they had, so I started feeding/socializing them to find them homes, the local nonprof humane society charges only $25 for an adoption and that includes neutering.  The past few days they're not showing up morn and eve so they must be feeding them now.

There's a gorgeous male that looks like dcart's tabby if anyone wants a pretty tom kitty.  Come and get 'im!  While I'm glad they're finally feeding them, they probably won't be neutered and come spring we'll be awash in more starving cats.

Call your local pound and ask them about cheap neutering, they should know.  She looks like she's got a couple months before you need worry, but get the plan in place.  Don't be like my crackhead neighbors.  ;-)

Thanx for the info fry day!!! Yeah im going to call and see what the pound says. I might be able to get a deal since Im disabled i dunno. 50 bux would be worth it. I hear it can cost $150! Honestly Ive never been serious about adopting or taking in strays. If someone would adore and want her they could have her. I know that sounds mean but honestly Ive never had a pet aside from fish and simple pets. I couldnt even keep house plants alive until recently. Shed be easier to put up for adoption now. Its a very playful kitten still. I may end up keeping her. I just couldnt leave her out in the wild. She needs someone and we are having fun together for the time being. I tied a lighter to a long string and went catfishing! She had me rollin for a minute there! The company is nice too. For I spend the majority of my time alone.

Cats are usually pretty easy keepers.  But only you can decide if the companionship/lolz are worth the hassle and expense.

I don't know how fleas are where you are - but that's my biggest critter expense after food.  I hate using the flea stuff and my animals have been poisoned by frontline (grrr!_),  I usually use advantage but the last few treatments seem to have done not much for the dog.

If you take her with you everywhere while she is young she'll roll with it...  I traveled with my old kitty in my westy for 9 months, she was pretty good except for that one time she decided to get out and sneak off at one of the sf bay area homedepots, couldn't find her and we had to get back to the job.  Came back after hours and found her, begrimed with motor oil and parking lot gunk.  She never did that again.
