Better hope it is a male cat, as Panaeolus is a masculine genus.

All genera are either masculine or feminine.  Species epithets in masculine genus have to end in a masculine suffix, while epithets in feminene genera have to end in a female suffix.

This is why, for example, when Volvariella gloiocephala was moved from a female genus into the masculine Volvopluteus, the new combination became Volvopluteus gloiocephalus.

You can check the sex of a genus on mycobank.

Lol...welcome to the world of owning cats ... I had one all my life till I moved out, they are super clingy when they are young, but they become way more independent as they get older.... I wouldn't see my cat for a full day sometimes, when she was older  I just stick to dogs now tho.... I love my mini Labrador! Not really "mini" in the sense of tiny but still half the size of a normal lab....and by far, the smartest animal I have ever owned!

Yea cats are like that I noticed too. Your dog sounds cool! I know my black labs I had were smart as whips!
This cat is ok just needs some attention. I got a big heart. I will make it a good home and try to train it as a cat that meows when it needs to go out and stays away from the highway right outside my front door! If it gets hit it gets hit. Theres neighborhood cats around here that know whats up. It will learn. Until its older ima keep an eye on it. Those alley cats will kill it if its a male.
I went back out for a while and heres what I saw. I got updates on those pins too I will post in a min on the threac they are on
1. Thinking Entoloma or Hypoloma pin they were everywhere, have been the past month on thar hillside.

2. Nice little gang of probably Galerinas

3. Some purple cup fungus?

4. Dunno Galerina maybe?

Galerina? Maybe Pholiota

Bonus pics Panaeolus. Ill bet its a female

It was out on a big farm. I will go ask the neighbors tomorrow if they lost a kitten. I really rather have a puppy. I try to not have any resposibility if I can help it lol. Me never being here much always out walking the woods in all.

I would have thought a dog was many times more work than a cat! They just mind their own business and you don't have to look after them. They explore while you do. Dogs need constant attention!

No doubt...that's the only thing I miss about cats....the lack of responsibility lol

Took it in the woods today. It did real good! Instincts are strong in this kitten! It was scaling the dead trees and keeping up real well. Once in a while i would have to call it and it would run to me and catch up. The only other time it didnt come when I called it was when it chased a chipmunk into a hole!
