Help Identifying Mushroom
    #19014532 - 10/22/13 04:39 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Found this under one of my flower pots. I live in North Texas if that helps at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If I was able to collect more, would I be able to cook with them? Looking at wiki, it says it is edible and to cook like eggplant. But then again it says some of those puff balls can kill you. =(

No Puffballs can kill you. It would have been referring to immature Amanita's that look superficially like Puffballs. Make sure it's not a Scleroderma species either.

Cut a puff ball in half...solid white enjoy....black,yellow,green throw it out. Black is poisonous and yellow or green is old and nasty. And make sure there is no mushroom inside....EVER

I found these in my woods today (northwest Illinois). I assume they are giant puffballs. How do I determine that they are giant puffballs and are edible.

Cut them open to be sure they are still solid and pure white inside.  Those look good.  :awesomenod:
