So I have three cameras. One is about 10 years old, the other about 5 and the newest is less than one. I can come back with specifics later but for now just keeping it as general as possible.
I love night time sky pictures, but every time I try to take one it just comes out black. Or if I try to take a picture of the moon it comes out much less spectacular than in person.
Do I need a special lens attachment to get more light to the lens or what?
If that's the case what are your reccomendations?

Oh that really depends on the camera / lens / (film?) setup...
A nice open lens would help a lot... Samyang / Rokinon has some 1.5 lenses. Coupled together with a modern digital DSLR and a long exposure time (30 secs to minutes) on a nice steady tripod, could give some stunning results. But be aware that if you live in the city, light polution could contaminate your photo.
That's why the best photos of stars and the milky way are taken out in the wilderness where no street lights can bother.
So... fast lens, and long exposure. I'd try and keep the iso pretty low (max 1600) to get the best results. You don't want grain to mess it all up.
In regards to the moon, you really need a long lens to make it worth it. I have a 70-200 Canon lens and that is by far not enough. If I could at all afford it I'd get a 400mm and an extender. Maybe you can find some cheap old telephoto lenses on ebay or your local 2nd hand store. Adapters to almost any brand is easy to find on Ebay.
