Nirvana
    #19033977 - 10/26/13 01:57 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Does anybody else like to subscribe to the opinion that Alice in Chains is better than Nirvana?

But all around, i think heroin makes great music.

Can you provide a source recording so we can accurately compare for ourselves?

Alice in Chains would be better if they had more than one form of vocal delivery for most of their songs.
But I do like Nirvana a lot.  I'm a product of the '90s what can I say?

Alice in Chains Dirt is a wicked album, and the lore of the band is surpassed only by some, in their generation at least.

Nirvana has more eclectic material, and have two hit albums (three if you count Insecticide, which i do) and their lore, might not include Heroin; but it certainly includes a clusterfuck of hilarity and tragedy that supersedes the likes of even those before them, with their fucking off on live on Television and generally not giving a fuck about their audience.

i don't know... both are good to me.

Kurt was addicted to heroin long before he ever was in Nirvana, so while heroin may not have been part of Nirvana lore it was defintiely part of Kurt lore

you just insulted Talk Talk. one of the single handed greatest experimental pop bands turned rock in the 80's.

you don't know what this band actually means. stick to Nirvana. you HAVE NOooooo idea how innovative and how special Laughing Stock is. LOL no offence, of course. you just don't know the significance.

yeah, they were a pretty poppy and pretty big, until they dropped the romantic bomb that was their later two albums.

people really don't know how to appreciate a good thing. Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden are considering two of the greatest albums of all time, and i'm sure if you look list of best albums, you'll find Talk Talk somewhere.

oh well.
this is what they sounded like...

kiddies. (sorry, but when someone insults a band that is hailed as genius, because they don't give it a chance, or have no taste,... or at least when someone is so insistent that it's bad, because i posted it, and it can't possibly receive praises because it's not the Dead or something said person can relate too, and can't be facetious about. it makes me laugh. so hard.)

It has nothing to do with who posted it, it just does not appeal to me. And for the record I am not much of a fan of the grateful dead . . .

don't worry, i get this all the time.

but it's not that it simply doesn't appeal to you, not from the remark you made.

but it's ok, man... that's cool. like i said, they are hailed as basically geniuses in composing, writing lyrics, and live performances, and in all accounts, were totally not famous; not until they broke up that is...

and you find it revolting. that's ok. i don't care, just pointing out the relevance of the band.

PS: i'm not always trying to argue with you, dude. :imslow:

And I am not trying to argue with you, just commenting on a subject that interests me and speaking my mind about a band.

i am not putting words in your mouth. i didn't say you said "it was revolting". i said. "but it's not that it simply doesn't appeal to you, not from the remark you made.... you found it revolting"

which the remark was... "Now I have one more reason to NEVER do heroin."

which is a sign of revulsion, not an objective stance on why you don't like the shit. which is why i used the word. even if it's not what you meant, it's a QUANTIFIER for what you're snide comment implied.

so stop. please. just stop.

And again, their music just does not appeal to me. I am not revolted by it by any means. They are talented musicians. They just do not play music that I can groove to.

Well here goes:

tom waits, nick cave and the bad seeds, gogol bordello, johnny cash, less claypool, buckethead, the doors, pink floyd, uriah heap, deep purple, rush, the gorillaz, space monkeys vs. the gorillaz, easy star allstars, the beatles, sublime, squirrel nut zippers, war, marylin manson, jack white, iron maiden, the pixies, mike patton, kaada/patton, rising appalachia, the human experience, bluetech, thriftworks, ott and the all seeing eye, children of bodom, gwar, horse the band, hank williams 1 and 3, march fourth marching band, mad professor, lee perry, the twinkle brothers, yabby you, the skatalites, agustus pablo, midnite, groundation, eek a mouse, barington levi, u-roy, big youth, martin campbell, prince fari, ini kamoze, alpha blondy, wayne jerret, horace andy, hugh mundell, josey wales, burning spear, ras michael . . .

And many many many more . . .

Oh yea, and actually I do like nirvana as well as alice in chains. They are both good bands, but I would have to go with nirvana because it is a little more nostalgic for me.

oh cool! you coulda said that in the first place... or you know... just let me tell my jokes about Deadheads and move on, being that i wasn't trying to argue with you, or insult you, either. all i said was... stick to Nirvana. which means nothing, in general. continue.

Yeah patton is awesome. If you have never checked out the kaada/patton album here, all of the songs are good in their own way, but I feel it is better when listened to as one whole composition

lol yeah that is just a fraction of the shit I listen to. and I would be the first to admit that I am picky when it comes to music, but I try not to criticize music even if I do not enjoy it. I mean they made it so they enjoyed it, obviously other people are destined enjoy it as well

I really like both I don't really think they are that comparable. Their sounds are totally different though they come from the same grunge Seattle scene so it's a natural comparison I guess. You just gotta take em for what they are. I like Nirvana more but that's probably only cause they were my first band it's like your first girlfriend or some shit you just kinda look back on it fondly. If I found Alice first I probably would like them more. Either way they are both on my playlist because they are both awesome. Nirvana at Reading 1992, Alice in Chains unplugged, Dirt, In Utero, that's some great fucking music.
