Okay so tonight I just learned that somewhere between 18-25 I was supposed to of registered for Selective Service.. I was never told this, not once. Apparently they won't accept that someone just didn't know they were supposed to. I don't know how I was supposed to of known when it isn't really publicized anywhere that I've ever seen. They can ask me to register to vote or become an organ donor but can't just drop me a heads up that I'm supposed to sign up for the draft or I can be fined more money than I'll probably make in an entire decade and be denied any future help?
Anyways, from what I'm seeing, if you've failed to register, you're pretty much screwed on getting government financial aid. So is there anyone here who has received that help but didn't register?

From sss.gov:
WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOU DID NOT REGISTER AND ARE NOW 26 OR OLDER? If you have passed your 26th birthday and are now being denied eligibility for Federal student financial aid, Federal job training, or Federal employment, or are having difficulty obtaining U.S. citizenship because you failed to register, you have the following recourse available to you: Explain to the official handling your case (for example, a student financial aid officer) the reasons for your failure to register with Selective Service. A non-registrant may not be denied any benefit if he can "show by a preponderance of evidence" that his failure to register was not knowing and willful. Offer as much evidence supporting your case, and as much detail, as possible.

Yes I know that, but reading people's experiences with trying that, I'm screwed. They don't accept that someone just didn't know. Was just trying to see if anyone here is or has been in my situation and actually managed to get the aid.
One person's claim was was "going good" until he was asked if he'd ever mailed a letter at the post office. When he said yes, they said they're going to have to deny his claim because they think every post office has a big banner hanging up saying you have to register. There isn't one in my post office, my post office's walls don't have anything hanging up as a matter of fact.. There's no notice anywhere saying shit about it, but since I've been in it, they will reject my claim.
I didn't get my license til 28 (this year). I didn't go to high school (home schooled from 13ish til a few months shy of 16, and then was in Juvi til 18).
From what I'm reading their attitude is anyone over the age of 25 who isn't registered just willfully said "fuck that" and it has nothing to do with the fact that there is no kind of awareness campaign or anything of the sort letting people know.
Shit, until tonight I thought the draft died back in the 70s or something.

So you're not registered? Are you over the age of 25?

Well then that might be why you got the help because you still have time to register.
