noticed a crack in the substrate from a tub i spawned yesterday, is it ok to go in there and level? * 1
    #19032178 - 10/25/13 05:28 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

it must of happened from when i moved it from spot of spawning to my space.  its a tiny crack.  i know if i go in there i can kinda smooth it out, pack down a tad and get rid of that crack.  considering i have pasteurized sub, would this still pose a possible contam risk and i should leave it alone?

right on.  ive had a big fat crack in a sub before.

i dont think the crack had much to do with lack of fruits as it was my first try, and ms.

i was just wondering if i caught it early i could fix it with no ill results.  ill just leave it be though.

Lmfao. You can level it, it doesn't add that much risk considering you already spawned in open air and you use an imperfect lid that let's in nasties.

Just don't like shit on your hands before you do it.

Had a small crack in a tray, it wasnt dry or anything... Myc sealed that bad boy up in 2 days. I wouldnt worry about contaming by fixing it but i also wouldnt bother fixing it.

Setting a monotub down on a flat surface may cause the substrate to split a gap down the middle. The reason is, when all the substrate is mixed in the tub, it weighs a lot so it sinks the bottom of the tub down like a concaved buldge. When the buldged concaved bottom is set on a completely flat surface, it "pushes up" on the bottom buldge and splits the substrate in half.

I set all bottom tubs on a couple of 2x4's so the buldged bottom has space to buldge out. Tubs can be set on top of other tubs no problem as the lids aren't solidly flat, it wont split the substrate. Just dont stack too many in a single stack.

I was trying to figure out how to say this but you did it for me :volcano:

I use a quart jar ring under each corner of my tubs.
