Quote- "Never dunk prior to first flush. You can even get away with two flushes without dunking if you have the correct moisture content in your substrate. You'll know when you need to dunk because the substrate will shrink and pull away from the sides of the tub."
I believe that answers your question well.

i think most peeps stopped dunking tubs but i'm guessing you just put a bunch of water in the tub and set something heavy on the myce to keep it from floating

If you had your moisture levels right during prep and spawning, not really much reason to dunk. As for how to dunk the tub, a simple way is to slide a dial rod through each of the lower holes, then put the whole thing in a bathtub and fill it with water until the substrate is submerged. The rods in the holes will keep it from floating up.

I have a 5/8 hole in the side of one end of my tub. The bottom of the hole is at the bottom of the tub. In the other end near the top is another 5/8hole that my cool mist comes in through. I detach and put it in the washbin so it can drain and run a longer tube through the top hole so it curls around and comes back to the side of the tub it entered from.
Then run a slow stream into it and play with the leveling of the tub so your myc has max water but it's not floating.i use a flat crowbar to level mine. I usually only leave it for six hours but you could do more.
