Has anyone seen a dietician?

Open ended up question.
I have recently got benefits again, through my girlfriend, but only expect to have them for a short while.
I am fascinated by nutrition and health, but don't subscribe to a specific health plan, instead opting to eat home cooked whole foods for health and pleasure.
Specific diet plan seem like they would (or could) strip away the joy of eating, and that's why I keep it simple at present. Although it is fair to say that I have read so many contradictory opinions on what constitutes a healthy diet, that I don't necessarily feel confident about making an informed choice one way or the either.
I am growing increasingly serious about athletics (triathalon sports) and feel like there might be room for improvement in my diet, and that perhaps a dietician might be able to steer me in the right direction.
I don't have excess money - but in the interest of exploring something that interests me, I could probably find a way to finance a couple visits.
So, is it worth it?

Worth it as opposed to what?
IMO you would probably gain more by putting that money into actual good food and supplements that you've researched yourself. The fact that there's an overwhelming abundance of diets out there is no reason to take none of them and test it out. There's an abundance of nutritionists as well, how would you know which to choose? It all boils down to testing and seeing after the fact, how it makes you feel / perform.
I'd put all my money into actual products, not getting information that's freely available for the googling or lurking the right places.

That's kind of what I am realizing.
I have always had gastric problems (chronic flatulance, lol) and heard that the FODMAP diet could help ... was thinking that A dietician might be able to help "construct" this diet, although I am sure I can do the same with google, you are right.

A TON of dieticians are biased. You'll see a bunch of them disagree on certain things that may or may not work well with your body.
IMO its not worth it unless you're having serious diet issues. I'd just say do your research and just try a bunch of different stuff out. No one is going to be able to tell you what is best for you other than your own body.
If you're having issues, maybe you can post out what you eat in the average week and people can help you out.

Like the other poster said, there are so many diets out there and also so much research being done that I think even dietitions struggle to keep up with the latest developments.
You will most likely also have people advising you to either follow a diet rich in carbs or one rich in proteins/fats.
Currently I am reducing my carbohydrate intake drastically and I seem to crave for food a lot less now and can manage on just two meals a day without any snacks inbetween.

Best program that worked for me was Paul Mckenna's "I Can Make You Thin". It's not a diet, it's just some well studied principles made by this awesome hypnotist. I could eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, as long as I stuck to the principles.
Wasn't running triathlons or anything, but I did get a 6pack for the first time in my life. Was awesome, felt awesome, no restrictions, like literally none. Snickers, pizza, all was AOK, just the principles had to be followed.
