I think the same about religion as I think about drugs, therapy, meditation, suicide... No one knows Why we are here including you and we are all just bouncing off one-another trying to figure that out.

Why are we the only kind of living form that can ask questions of any kind. Why do we choose to not reproduce sometimes? The thing every surviving organism does without question or thought. Why do we go vote when we know the ones in charge would gladly kill us in war or by other means if we get in the way of "production". Why do we go to a job that we hate and don't need in this society to survive. Why do some of us feel guilty if we quit that job without giving two weeks notice and think it's okay for our employer to fire a person for failing a drug test who has a family to support. We say nothing so we are not ostracised because we need some comfort in a world of constant change.

Human beings are still waking up to their potential consciousness. Give 'em a break. They are just looking for help in their fellow man who sometimes molests their children.

It's a heavy world out there. We're all gonna need a crutch... or a drink... or a crutch after we have a few drinks.

p.s. It's hard to walk alone When you are sitting in front of a screen that is connected to the entire world.

what i find interesting in this thread is

1. that belief in make believe stuff can solve make believe problems (e.g. exorcism, spiritual cleansing or w/e). and further that make believe problems can sometimes be necessary to deal with the confusion, anxiety and hopelessness of life.

2. the social function. too often imo religion is portrayed here as belief in some insane shit without properly contextualizing the beliefs within the society or values they support.

imo we cant escape beliefs, the best we can do is be open enough to say 'well this is as best that i know tho it's not all that much'..

i also find it interesting to think about the kind of beliefs people today uncritically take as truth.

Many humans may try to persuade you into buying into their fantasy, as if they don't think you suspected that they were already going to persuade you into revealing that fantasy, as if you wished to discover why they told someone other than you about the fantasy. So they were informing your brother about the fantasy in question when you suddenly realized I was going to tell you about that ten minutes before you first made this post, as if I already made this post before you made yours, as if you cannot ignore the fact that my post existed before yours because to say so would be high treason and you would be only kidding yourself indeed. For many times we might have to bow to someone whom holds much more influence over people than yourself, someone whom influence has ranged to peaks so high that noone can possibly ever ignore its truth in regards to themselves. As if the influence is so immense that you no longer can regard it as no more than something which gave you power you never deserved yourself. As if right as you gained the power in which you denied yourself the pleasure contained from accepting it into your orbit, was so splendid that you couldn't refuse to also inform other people that you wished to gain more of this power. As if you also wanted other people to become apart of a fantasy which you were involved but which you also sacrificed an essential aspect of yourself with regard to how you performed the telling of the fantasy. As if even if you told me I would have first told you about my fantasy, as if I was already concocting the fantasy and you could never have told it before I told you mine. As if no matter how hard to tried to disregard the blatant fact that I informed you about my fantasy before you did that we saw that we wished to speak more of it.

From someone such as myself, someone so understanding, someone that knows how you feel, someone that is gives the world so much pleasure from just living, as if just because this person lives you have suddenly obtained an immense amount of pleasure you never before saw revealed in such quantities. So much pleasure indeed that you would also wish to inform your friends that you wanted to find more.

So you would also have to bring your friends along with you to acknowledge this fantasy is just something you created in your head, as if the fantasy isn't actually real and you made it up yourself. So you are just pretending this fantasy is who you really are when in reality you are no more than the person who conceived of the fantasy. In a way we are prone to acknowledging a fantasy that we no longer can relate to because it is much greater than any fantasy we could ever have dreamed of, since it was made from someone that no longer creates fantasies except during Christmas. Sometimes he will make a fantasy but then abandon it just as soon as he created it.

I ride the fence of religion and atheism so much I have to get off on one side or the other from time to time just to rub my sore ass.

Religion helps a lot of people but it also preys on the weak, ignorant, or otherwise misguided. But the thing about these groups of people is they can't help being this way. It's the hand they were dealt. It's easier for a freezing homeless person to swallow religion when it comes with hot soup and a cot.

OrgoneConclusion, you should start a non-religious homeless shelter/drug abuse support centre/family dysfunction support centre that isn't based on religion but based on facts and therapy and people sharing their burdens with one-another and learning from each others mistakes. Imagine the social draw that would have in your community. They couldn't ignore that. They would have to get involved. It would also slowly take members away from a church that takes their money and uses it for questionable things like a new luxury car for the priest and "turn you straight camps".

Mission Accomplished :dancer:

Thanks for the kind words and the welcomes guys.

Icelander, I love that anonymous quote.
