So tomorrow begins the week long period of midterms for my Network Systems Administration course.
Tomorrow is Server 2008, covering RRAS, DNS, and DHCP. Anyone else find DNS to be a load of information?

Good luck to you. I do find DNS to be pretty thick in content, but once you get a basic understanding and start working with it, it isn't too bad. There is still so much to learn from a security stand point though!
SQL 2000! So many vulnerabilities in there

Does your course prepare you for server 2012?
My last employer was still using SBS 2003 :x and SQL 2000 :vomit: and MS access 2000
Yea microsoft is pretty garbage I agree, but it seems like it's used quite a bit in the enterprise level.
No, the course's reasoning is that 2008 is still the major Server OS used when it comes to Microsoft, so it's better to learn to use 2008 now, and then just upgraded to 2012 when it is appropriate.
LOL I fucking hate MS access... I took a Database course that was using MS Access and Visio, dropped out from sheer boredom.

Got my Linux midterm tomorrow
SQL 2000! So many vulnerabilities in there
Thank you sir!
Yea DNS is really think in content, and at first it was a little hard to understand, but after doing some labs and prepping for the exam it became pretty easy.
Yea, I'm really looking forward to the security though, that's where I shine
Got my Linux midterm tomorrow

If you take out the bullshit, the course's reasoning is that they are not yet ready to teach 2012, so continue teaching 2008 as long as people are willing to pay. If you want to be good at 2012, start learning powershell... MS is really trying to move away from the GUI in the server world. Other than the horrid GUI, there aren't a lot of differences between 2008 and 2012, though some of the small changes are really nice.

Never cared for Micro$oft, but if you want to make good money in the corporate world, this is a safe path to take.

I feel like they are adequate to teach Server 2012 if they thought it was necessary. The people teaching this program are VERY experienced in the Cisco, Linux, and microsoft world, and are very well known in the IT world, and have been in it for a long time.
I believe we do powershell second year.. Not sure though.
Well yea, GUI taxes system resources, and since servers themselves are mostly in dark closets, it's unnecessary. But then again, you can always just install server core.
Linux midterm down the hatch, Computer hardware tomorrow!

That is the push Microsoft is making with 2012 and even more so as cloud computing becomes popular.

That's very true; Are they totally phasing out GUI in Server 2012? Server core is much better, but it's always nice to have some GUI capabilities if you want. But then again, that's why Linux is superior, X Server and virtual terminals ftw!
