Fireplaces 2

Yesterday I took a shower for no reason other than the fact that I was cold, and reminisced about how much I love participating in that simple act of joy in the winter.
Then today I'd noticed my father had a fire going in the fireplace, and that filled me with an even greater sense of nostalgia than my shower had the day prior.
The act of snuggling up next to a fireplace and slowly toasting yourself up to a state of euphoric warmth when you're cold, is nothing short of beautiful.
Talk about fireplace experiences, post fireplace pictures, post fireplace quotes, talk about the infinite fractal beauty that is held within the radiating warmth of a fireplace.
"When I come home, cold and tired. It's good to warm my bones, beside the fire." - Time by Pink Floyd

I remember when my parents installed a gas fire system in the fireplace and stopped using wood.
When we tried it out later that night, I felt the magic disappear from the hearth.
I still love wrapping myself in a blanket by the fire, but it's just not the same when you hear a hiss of gas rather than the crackling of wood.

I REALLY enjoy a good campfire. There's nothing like being a little chilly and huddling round the fire with some good friends.
I got to enjoy a little campfire time at the music fest I went to last week. One time at a rainbow gathering, I totally melted the tread on my boot on the campfire. Ended up later losing those boots anyways.

I heat my house with a wood fireplace in the winter and chop all my own wood for it. So far this fall I've already chopped 4 chords worth of hard wood. Hard wood just heats better IMO.
I may chop one more chord just in case but I'm not sure.I've been doing this since I was a little kid and I don't think I'll ever stop, I love it.
Also getting stoned and sitting on the couch across from the fire watching the flames dance on the first lighting night is also becoming a ritual.

I don't really like taking a shower when I'm cold because I always feel so cold when I get out unless I run the heater and shit. I prefer a good long soak in a hot bath when I'm chilled to the bone.

We were forced to remove our fireplace because it was in a log house and the dumb c@nt who did the insurance quote was definitely biased against fireplaces and said if we wanted insurance we had to pay almost triple or have it removed from the house. I still make sure my mom is stocked up on wood every year and she lets me sit in her chair by the fire when I'm over;)! I bet the insurance company is in bed with the gas company. I loved my fireplace soooo much this thread not only warms my heart but it also shatters it to a million pieces.

I mentioned this a week or so ago (some of you may recall); I live in a condo that didn't have a traditional fireplace, so I found this one.

I highly recommend them for those who don't already have a traditional fireplace. They burn ethanol and you can find them at decently affordable prices (the one in the pic above is probably in the neighborhood of $200), and they really work well.
I have a moderately sized living area and it'll raise the temp in there by a good five degrees. And the flame is nice to look at, too.
