Howdy yawwwl! It's been quite some time since I've been back here on my old Shroomy home, loooots of new faces and a few familiars I see! Just wanted to make this thread to catch up with everyone. You know, share alittle about what I've been up to and hopefully hear from y'all about what's going on in your lives!
For anyone interested in what's been going on in the life of Rip lately, quite a bit has changed in my life just in the last year. It's been a very painful time but with the pain has come so many positive changes in my life.
The most painful thing was the death of my Grandfather, who was the best man I've ever met and was ALWAYS there for me without passing judgement through my struggle with addiction, even when I relapsed and the rest of my family gave up on me. He died unexpectedly in January at the age of 73, passing out in his bathroom and hitting his head which caused bleeding in his brain and it was the most heartbreaking time of my life. I was very blessed however to be able to be there in the hospital room with the rest of my family to say goodbye and hug him as he took his last breath.
A friend of mine was also killed in a car wreck last winter, making that two people I was close to that have died in auto accidents in the last couple of years - the other being my best friend's 15 year old brother who was accidentally run over in his own driveway by a 14 year old girl who shouldn't have been driving in the first place.
But through all the death that seemed to swarm me the last 3 years, I found a new desire for my own life. I don't want to waste it anymore living to please myself. I want to use whatever time I have left here to help as many people as I can, starting with a drastic change in the my career path. I'm starting on a "fast-track" (one semester) EMT certification in January at SW Tennessee Community College and eventually plan on becoming a paramedic and moving on to the fire department. I NEVER saw myself going down that path even just a year ago, but now I could't be more excited.
I'm still working at a dog boarding facility for now though, mostly training dogs. Don't always get as many hours as would be ideal, but it pays my bills and leaves me time to help my grandmother and keep her company while she struggles with my grandfather's death.
I also get Mondays off, so I'm able to go with the family of the friend that was killed last winter to downtown Memphis and give out home cooked meals for several hours in the morning and several hours in the evening to anyone who is for any reason unable to afford to eat. Volunteering is something totally new to me this year and incredibly rewarding.
Their family and I started the team back in March but I wish I had started earlier in my life since I had plenty of chances but was always too uncomfortable with the idea and have always been a fuckin pussy when it comes to going outside my social safe zone... But that anxiety was blown away after the first day. I've been able to meet SO many incredibly interesting, kind hearted people and hear so many eye-opening stories from them. Many of which I have been able to grow close to since I see many of the same people every Monday. They're starting to become almost like an [incredibly diverse ] family to me. I know it might sound cliche but the people I've met downtown really have changed the way I view and interact with people EVERYWHERE in a very positive way, in ways that psychedelics and religion never did.
But I'll save the details of my experiences in downtown Memphis for another post. I'd love to know what's been going on with you guys! Things been going well for you? Let's hear about it! If you've been having a hard time and don't mind sharing I'd like to hear about it too. Despite my relative absence that past couple of years I still love this community. It's been my online home since I was 17 (yes, I know, I broked da roolz ), the one place where I've been able to be completely honest and open and have always found comfort from fellow shroomerites' kind and encouraging words and would like to catch up with how you all are doing!

Welcome back! I've also been absent from the Shroomery, but I was only gone for like 7 months. Sorry to hear about all those tragic events you've experienced in your life lately, but it's good to hear that you're heading in a more positive direction.
