Hey folks, I was just wondering if these are Gymnopilus junonius...spectabilis...whatever the species is called now. They were growing out of a decaying stump in western Oregon. Thanks much.

I vote Gymnopilus, junonius possibly? Pholiota spores would be a rusty brown.

It can take over 24 hours and some do not bruise or can be faint and almost green because of their color. Look at the very bottom pin of the last picture, does that appear to be blue?(I'm color blind but it looks kind of bruised to me)

No blue. They bruise like a Lepiota rachodes does when cut. Thanks for the replies, everyone. I don't plan on eating them, anyway. Even the most potent Gymnopilus junonius don't contain enough psilocybin to be worthwhile, and the taste is shit (really bitter.)

It's A Gymnopilus. If that is a conifer stump then it's probably G. ventricosus. Can you save it?

Yeah, it's a decaying conifer. I just got back from the same general area and found a huge load of these growing out every which way from the top of a partially hollowed out stump along with a bunch fruiting from underneath the base. They're in what my wife calls "the mushroom fridge" along with other different fungi.

Sure. May I ask why?

I think it looks like a deep red based purple.

"the mushroom fridge"? Does she have an aversion to wild fungi? I love to hunt, collect, photograph and ID the wild shroomys...but I wash my hands before eating, smoking or having my hands anywhere near my face after handling them and it drives me CRAZY when my husband puts them on our kitchen table, near our dishes, or near our food. No matter how edible the mushy is. I know it's CRAZY but it's just a weird mental quirk I have. I bet it drives my husband crazy that I act like this. Quote:

They will end up at the Herbarium@ the Chicago Field museum where they will eventually be analyzed microscopically and their genetic sequence added to genbank. I would really appreciate it.

I'd be fine with that. I'll keep a few of them just for the sake of quick identification. We have a "mushroom festival" every October (this Sunday) in Eugene where mycologists from OSU and University of Oregon have their microscopes on-hand when you bring the spores and specimens to them. Anyway, my Email's neddypatches@gmail.com. I'll try my best to be of help.
Here's what I grabbed today. My camera battery was dead; I wasn't able to take field pics.
