Do you think my pasteurizer will work

Just have a Tub hooked up to a PC
Extra steam goes into the tub
Pillow case of substrate sits on a rack
Doing a thing right now
Inside tub temp 145 degrees
got a probe temp in the middle set to 140
at 140 ill turn it off and let it rise a bit more
hopefully all is well
any advice or tips or adjustments I should make?

If you are getting the core temp of the sub up to 140-170, then it should be fine.
As you may already know, CVG has more room for error, but, if you're using coffee, manure, or anything else, then I might be concerned about partial sterilization of the outer edges. I honestly can't say this is a legitimate concern though.

Kool , no more 180 degrees for like 2 hours
If my tub is at 150 should I just wait for the whole thing to hit 150 since It shouldnt exceed that
I thought I read somewhere partial sterilization wasn't too bad cause you could mix it up and by the time it cools down it will have spread not to say that it is better
Is this true or just a thought thats been in my head
Im glad I work with CVG , seeing as I dont have a dedicated grow space till my roommate moves out

If the center is 150, then the rest will be hotter.
Everything else sounds good.

The only way I can think that the core is hotter than the outside is if you get the core up to temperature and then cool the whole thing down. The outside will cool faster than the inside.
In other words, the temperature of the outside of the mass will change faster than the core of the mass.
During the heating process, I don't see how the core can rise to hotter than the outside unless there is something metabolizing , like in composting.

So I can just leave it in there till it all hits 150?

Whats wrong with that?
Just trying to clarify , I can not afford to be screwing up anymore

I had to re-read our posts because I feel like we are going in circles. But I think I get what you're saying now.
I was under the presumption that the steam was going to be much hotter because, well, steam is much hotter. Not knowing exactly how you have this set up, I may have made an erroneous presumption. I now realize you may be trying to maintain the tub temperature at 150.
And you are correct. If the tub is only 150 then, yeah, the substrate core won't go above that.
But, it's okay if the tub goes higher as long as the core of the sub stays 140-170 for 60 mins.
I use the jars in a water bath method. I turn the stove off when the water gets 170. That way I know the core will never get that high. It's okay if the water gets hotter, but that's how I do it because I don't have to worry about the core getting too hot even after I turn off the heat.

Ah ok , That makes sense
Yeah I just vent the steam into a 110 gal tub From a PC with a pillowcase in the middle
I have two thermometers one to measure the temp inside the box which I keep at 150
And one inside the core i keep at 145
I was trying to get the core to 150 but IT was taking forever to maybe go up a degree and I didnt want the tub to go over 155 internal temperature so I just cut it at 145

You can easily let the tub go to 170-180 without risk. It can make a big in getting the core temp up faster.
Once it's done pasteurizing, try and cool it quickly.

I agree with everything in this thread, save one bit; I don't think it would be wise to let it get to 170+ for more than a minute or two. That is the upper limit of pasteurization temperatures; allowing temps that high may partially pasteurize the substrate. I do my best to hold mine at 160 for one hour.
Best of luck!

Interesting. Seems like that would partially sterilize the substrate, but I yield to franks expertise (and your searching ability.) Maybe partial sterilization occurs, but, as long as the core temp is within range, those bacteria quickly recolonize the outer substrate as it cools.

I would probably notice a change in one of frank's write-ups before I would notice my wife's new haircut.
