see, the point of life is to eat shrooms.

Why are we here? Everyone has to figure that out for themselves.
one can not live life and understand life at the same time. when one attempts to understand, one takes the first step into divergence.
this is not a bad thing, because it opens up many doors of possibilities. but don't be fooled; pure understanding is something which can not be achieved through examination and hard analysis. knowledge of self can be expanded upon always, but not understanding of self. that is something which can either be present or distracted.

Life is about living itself. As living humans, we can experience things, build memories, dream and imagine, change ourselves, others and environment, form relationships with other humans who each have their own lifetime of experiences which define them, produce other living things, and it goes on. All living things are also dying things.
-------------------- "An ignorant man is lost, faithless, and filled with self-doubt; A soul that harbors doubt has no joy, not in this world or the next." -Bhagavad-gita 4:40

I'm impressed. Two pages of comments about the meaning of life and nobody has said the G word yet.
Well, I won't be the one to start that nonsense.
The purpose of life is to live. There is no greater meaning, no eternal lottery or reward system for being good to your fellow man. You should be good because it makes you feel good to be so, and revel in this single amazing chance we have at existence and cognition. After all, it will be over in just a minute... and that won't be so bad; you were perfectly fine for the billions of years before you existed, and you shall be perfectly fine for the billions afterward.
"We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself" -Carl Sagan.
So, to answer the question: Life for me is both meaningless and incredibly fulfilling.
