    #19024340 - 10/24/13 07:43 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Gymnopilus sp.
Gymnopilus purpuratus
Panaeolus cinctulus
Panaeolus fimicola
its easy enough to find out about the subs and ive had success picking them but im not really sure about these or if there are others, just any details anyone could give about south aus mushrooms would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. If a particular species is active then it is active regardless of when it's growing. Most species are limited to a particular season or time of year.

The production of psychoactive compounds will vary between individuals and probably in response to environmental variables (like substrate composition, moisture, temperature, etc).

All mushrooms that have psychoactive chemicals contained in them will have the chemicals in peak concentrations while growing and some times loose a bit of potency when dried.  Besides that, yes all those mushrooms listed can be found in different areas, habitats and seasons. If its extremely hot, dont bother looking unless you find a bog or swamp area that stays wet, other wise wait for mild weather 80's or 90's anything above constant freezing, and anytime there is decent rainfall and moisture your gonna find mushrooms. In the fall, and winter your gonna find your cold weather fruiting species, like the Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. Look in wood chip beds, local parks, around buildings that use it, around apartment complexes, ect. Looking in the wild for that type of "wood lover" will be difficult. but you can look in the woods for the gymnopilus species. So that will keep you busy during the fall and winter months. In spring and summer you can look for Panaeolus cinctulus, Psilocybe Cubensis, Panaeolus cyanescens, all found in pastures, grassy areas where horses, cows, bulls, sheep, elephant, goats, Ostrich, maybe even chickens and other animals,,,but pretty much moist grass with older manure, Fields that have grazing animals and the fields or ranch's with the animals should be atleast 5 years old, It takes a while for a field to establish itself as a GOOD place to look for these types of mushrooms. GOOD luck.

If by lawnmower mushroom you mean Panaeolina foenisecii, then no, it is not active anywhere. Reports of low activity levels are generally thought to be due to mixed collections.
