make this clear for me

hey yall,
its been a while since i've grown shrooms so i need a little refresher.

as far as using the cakes as "spawn". does this mean you use the colonizied cakes to get myceliem going in a larger substrate like straw. and from there, once this straw is colonized, you'd case this straw under a layer of verm or dirt or whatever?? so if i were to get a colonized cake, crumble it up and throw it into a bag of sterilized straw, i'd be "spawning" the straw. and with this straw, i could set up a larger casing.....

i just need someone to tell me in terms other than that of the faq. sorry for the redundancy.

spot on, except that pasteurising rather than sterilising the straw is recommended. that means about 75-80C (cooler than boiling) for an hour or more.

you can do that.... but using some cow dung with the straw is more efficient....

shirley you can't be serious. lol. thanks for the reply.

so pasteurizing can be accomplished usind a seeping bag with straw in it and dunking it in 80c water for an hour.... cool.

i've been skeptical about using a microwave for sterile technique. is it a viable option??

if not, how the hell else would i do it??
