Smaller shrooms = Higher potency?
    #19023150 - 10/24/13 03:07 AM (5 years, 4 months ago)

So my monotub just finished its first flush and i got about 250g wet. The shrooms are however very small but theres alot of them and proportion wise they are short and fat. Should this make the potency per gram higher than bigger shrooms? The strain is mazapatec which i heard is a smaller strain.

Smaller mushrooms are more potent by weight usually.

And mazatapec mushrooms are not known to be small.

Cubes are cubes.

I don't think there's any way someone could definitively answer this question - the only thing I've ever heard in relation to this is that aborts are more potent, but then you'd have to eat a good amount of them since they're so small

Cubes are cubes but I have to kinda disagree here.

I think there are only a handful of vendors that sell mazatapec spores.  I think a lot of people get mazatapec spores from a vendor who's genetics tend to have smaller fruits.  Therefor a lot of people get small mazatapecs and so they erroneously believe that ALL mazatapecs are small.

I think it's just a specific vendor's genetics.  When I grew them they were pretty small in all flushes.

So while not all mazatapecs are small, they're 'known to be small' because lots of people are getting their genes from the same donor cap.

That's wrong mazatapecs is just a name. It's the same species as all other cubes. You'll have to isolate individual strains that mating spores produce on agar to see any specific characteristics, which you can do with any "variety". Shit your vendor might even just write mazatapecs on the side of a B+ syringe just to have more variety because you would never know the difference anyway.

It does seem sometimes
that small shroom species are
a bit stronger.
Like P. semilanceata, and Pan. Cyanescens

It just so happens that they're smaller they're a whole different species though. Pan Cyan could have just as easily been bigger and still have better % of actives than cubes. It's apples to oranges

Sponsors want to have everything in stock. Variety is one of a few reasons vendors can compete on.

RR has even said he can't identify "varieties" other than albinos and PE from other varieties of cubes with anything better than random chance. My GT B+ and Creeper all look the same, I have to label them or I would never know. Shit even when I grow Albino A+ from MS I get colored fruits every once and a while.

Still disagree. Continuing this discussion in the 'strain' thread.  The fact remains lots of people report having small fruits from spore syringes labeled 'mazatapec.'  If this is the case then they are 'known to produce smaller fruits.'  Just because it's not the 'rule' doesn't mean it's not what people get when they grow.

Out of curiosity, have you ever grown them?

regardless of what people might say, and I don't care how much experience you have, me and a friend have had the same results with KSSS.

Starting from MS on multiple occasions from syringes ordered at different times, the fruits usually seem to have fat stipes that are bulbous at the bottom. He uses straw and manure in a different part of the country. I use CVG. Just sayin:shrug:

Then you have the ones you are talking about.

Cubes are cubes.....just because the syringe says KSSS does not mean they will be short and fat.

And these 3 links are all within the last month alone, there are plenty more KSSS pics I can find that look like regular cubes.

I dunno guess I'm wrong too then cause I notice a huge difference between

the small fruits and potency of mazatapec compared to giant tall killer

potent PE6.....a cube was not just a cube I swear on it. lmao

The saying a cube is a cube does not mean they are all going to be the same.

It means they are all the same, in the fact that they are all different.

It that made any sense...lol

Trust me, I'm certainly not trying to say with certainty that one variety is completely different than another.

I don't know enough about genetics to make a good argument either way. Nor do I know how far the "race" analogy can be taken.

But I do find the continuity interesting, regardless of the reason.

The saying a cube is a cube means that all cubes need the same environment to grow.  A lot of newcomers ask about what kind of temperature such and such strain needs and we tell them 'a cube is a cube'

It was said in the strain discussion that 'race' would be a better word than strain.

Humans have races too.  Some are black.  Some are white.  The japanese only have brown eyes and brown / black hair (though there is a rare recessive red hair gene) and they all tend to be on the shorter side (though that's certainly not the rule.)

A cube is a cube and they all grow in the same environment.  But to say that there are absolutely no genetic differences between cubensis mushrooms on opposite sides of the world which could POSSIBLY include genetics that tend towards smaller fruits is the worst kind of hubris.
