humidity strange-ness
    #19020135 - 10/23/13 04:01 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

we were getting some wierd aborts and long stems off our straw logs for a while, then my pond foggers died.  they were running 24/7 for condensed fog.  first I thought we need more fresh air, then light.  but a week without humidity and our oysters have never looked better!  just harvested 40lbs the last couple of days...

kind of counter intuitive, but experience trumps all.

what has humidity been like in your area? Do you spray down your rooms? I  would not be surprised by that at all if your outside humidity been really high.

Thanks for sharing. Pretty interesting. so on logs which were throwing off strange growths the stopped doing that and fruited normally?

or is it that those logs got tossed and new logs that replaced them did better with lower humidity?

yes, same logs, better fruits.  we flush at least twice before they are tossed.

according to the digital POS, it hovered at 99 for the first few days as there was standing water on the floor.  now they are reading between 60 and 75.

Sort of like overwatering plants, i reckon.

Interesting...  I keep telling people oysters don't need that much humidity, but I never knew it was possible for too high humidity to cause problems, that's crazy!

All my substrates keep flushing outside, and Maine really isn't that humid, especially this time of year.  When they wanna grow they'll grow.

I wish my pinks would respond like that.  I'm trying to fruit them in my aquarium room,  but the humidity hangs around 60-70 percent. It's pinning in the bag but the fruits seem to shy away from the X's I've cut.  Apparently it's too cold to fruit them outdoors here right now,  so if they don't do something soon they're getting buried somewhere.

That's really weird... Can you cut new x's where the pins are?  They should be fine at that humidity, esp. once they've already pinned.  I've fruited them outdoors here.  Open the bag if you have to, if you've got pins all they need is AIR!

Yeah man that should be good, x's, holes, whatever just let the mushrooms out while keeping the block's moisture in as much as possible.

Sorry Drake :offtopic:

RR always talks about Rooms not needing humidity sources other than spraying out twice a day. I am sure this is what you were seeing. Especially if there are alot of them in there, they breath and put off a lot of humidity on their own.
