rye grain cakes ? 1

after messing up a bulk grow iv been left with alot of rye grain and no desire to do bulk anytime soon. I was wondering if instead of spawning the grain to bulk substrate i could just birth it whole and treat it as a brf cake in a sgfc ? am i likley to run into any problems?

The grains will dry out without a casing layer, so after the grains are fully colonized you could spread them out onto a tray and then case them.

even with a dunk and regular misting ? i really want to keep it simple after fucking up before so i want to avoid doing anything that needs pasteurising, a casing layer seems intimidating to me aha think putting some wet verm in like with brf cakes would be a good idea to help with the drying out or would that just not be enough ?

just try bulk again and closely follow the steps. You will have more issues if you try to be inventive. Do what works first, then experiment on your own.
Just do PF tek and make some beer or trade the rye.
If you are intimidated by pasteurizing then maybe this hobby isn't for you.

i want everything to colonise in sterile environment in the jar, scared to add a second chance for contamination after failing. think i could get away with doing PF tek substituting the BRF for whole rye grain ? would this help with the drying out ?

When I made the grain cakes they were just plain rye berries nothing more.
The rye is rinsed, then allowed to soak in hot water for 24hrs, then boiled
for 12 mins. Dry in strainer until grain is dry to the touch. Load jars
and pressure cook. I dunked and rolled the cakes after every flush.

I fruited wbs cakes with pretty good success before. I dunked and roll them. I misted heavily a few times a day and even injected water in them with a syringe part of the way through fruiting. Or you could try bottom watering

Do mini bulk grow , Like small tubs They colonize quicker so less chance of contam IMO

I agree with this also. My buddy puts one jar of spawn with one jar of coir/verm and he always gets an oz dried just off the first flush

How did you not? It's a tech for optimally fruiting straight-grains in any fruiting chamber

as i say i galnced and only really looked at the casing layer wich was pasturised i think , i was looking for an easy way of doing it tbh aha
okay i think im gonna do two cakes of rye grain with verm and do a minibulk tray 1:1 and probably do proper pasteurisation this time asswell. doubt il get anything like an oz dry with my jars thow im using half pints haha
