It still has roots and its not soft.. But is it worth saving for a brew or should I throw it out?

If you think its rot, i would suggest to toss him up, i dont know with that much rot ( if it is) that would help cut and reroot it.. And i would obviously not even think to ingesting it.

Does it smell bad? I had a bunch of fat SP logs stressing in a closet that went bad and started turning that weird orange color and looked just like that. I would get rid of that and not ingest it. Looks like it went bad, IMO.

Check the bottom. It looks kinda soft and about to turn mushy and smelly. If not, the marks upwards look like sunstroke to me - any chance you moved it suddenly to a very bright spot? I would give it a chance of doing its thing and throw a couple of branches you can later use for something else other than the bin.
