Specimen 1: Habitat: I found them on open moorland which was damp, sheep and horses occasionally graze here. Short grass.
Gills: The gills are purply brown and are con-cave.
Stem: White stem from the head and darkening when going to the root, quite thin.
Cap: Brown cap, kind of conicle - a bit slimey (could be that they are still wet from the rain).
Spore print color: I don't know
Bruising: not noticed anything yet, only just picked them

Specimen 2: Habitat: I found them on open moorland which was damp, sheep and horses occasionally graze here. Short grass.
Gills: The gills are purply brown and are almost flat with the cap, slightly concaved.
Stem: White stem
Cap: white/grey at edges, turning into a light brown at the centre - a bit slimey (could be that they are still wet from the rain).
Spore print color: I don't know
Bruising: not noticed anything yet, only just picked them

Thank you in advance, and I hope I have done this post correctly (or to the best of my limited abilities!!)

You have Protostropharia and Psilocybe.
So, I don't know how to answer your survey. Because the answer is yes and no.
All of the ones in the last photos are protostropharia.
Separate them all by species and take more pics so we can narrow this down.

Hi, Thanks for your reply, ive took some more pictures of specimen 1:

I have a number of different specimens which I found within this area, I will create a new ID when I get chance to take some decent pictures of them.
Thank you again

Cool finds .. Try to snip the stipe on your next hunt instead of pulling them out of the ground

It helps to keep the substrate intact.
Which will help it to fruit more. Think of it as energy loss.
If you rip up a bunch of cells from the substrate then the fungus has to repair itself. Energy lost.
I don't know if this actually will have an effect on the fruiting but it is generally thought so.

Yes. P. semilanceata mycelium grows slowly. Pulling the mushrooms out of the ground damages it and the potential future health of the field. Thus resulting in a decrease in the number of mushrooms that may grow.
If you you don't snip them try and snap the stipe at the base when you pick it

Also, I see a lot of people on here post pics of mushrooms which look like they have been washed. I try not to run picked mushrooms under water unless totally necessary, which I don't ever think it is... Clean them carefully by hand, pick off grass and bits of sand/dirt. I feel like washing them re-hydrates to the point of being waterlogged, then you have to spend more time drying them and probably lose a lot of potency in that time. Also, I think washing them might "rinse" off some of the potency as well. I've made tea from fresh caps, so I know the water can dissolve some of the alkaloids away.

Infrequently, and at "high" doses. And all that jazz about set and setting... You know, a silent place, or in the forest. Don't forget to close your eyes! The real beauty is inside your own mind.
