Is this chicken of the woods?
    #19019002 - 10/23/13 11:52 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hi All!  Can you help me confirm this as a laetiporus sulphureus?

Habitat:
Growing on a tree by the side of a road, in wooded area. This is the tree:

Gills:
No visible gills or pores, just one blob. Very moist on the outside, but when pulled apart the inside is sort of "chickenish". Once a grip  was made on the slippery outside, the mushroom tore easily leaving fibers such that you would see in a chicken breast.

Stem: No visible stem.

Cap:
Orange nearest tree, yellow tips.

Spore print color: Pending

Bruising:
No color change.

Other information:
Smells like mushroom - woody, slightly sweet.

thanks for your comments! I agree with FoxDie and this is why I wasn't sure about it - it seems really close together. Here is a close up. I saw this and while looking at it, a pick-up truck slowed. I went home to get a big knife and when I returned it was on the ground with huge sneaker marks on it. #@#! Anyway the following picture shows the undamaged part that I took home. Ate a small portion already, no side effects and I'm not dead yet.

I saw a cluster on at tree like this while driving by someone's lawn upstate NY, but I didn't stop to really look at it. I figured it seemed too different from pictures online where it seems to have ridges. I dunno. I'm a noob, now I think I should have grabbed it (with permission) or at least put a picture up.
