when will my g. luteus log start fruiting?
    #19017931 - 10/23/13 08:31 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

So if any of you remember I found lutes in August. They are supposed to fruit in the summer and fall, but August is kind of in the middle. Since than, the log has not fruited anything and its almost Halloween. When will it fruit again? I was a dick and just pulled them out, destroying the basal mycelium most likely. Expect for some, which I didn't pick at all. Are they gonna fruit in the spring? Summer? Because it's not fruiting now! I'm sure there's some people who can help me out. And,a side note. Just because my log isn't fruiting doesn't mean others won't, right? It's supposed to be the season right now. Will I find more if I keep looking? I'm in connecticut if it helps, thanks guys

It's probably late in the season for G. luteus in Conneticut.

This is what I figured, they fruited mid August originally. Like the 20th, probably started popping the 15th. I have read that they fruit twice, in the spring/summer and in the fall.

My question is, when I found them in August, was that it's fall fruit? If so, would that mean that because they fruited early in the fall, would they also fruit early in the spring? Like the entire time frame is just shifted back for luteus in ct? I know this is a lot.

Last thing, how abusive do you have to be to the Mycelium to mess it up? Just the sheer number of times I've been to the log worries me, I yanked them out without cutting them, (basal mycelium) and at one point I got tobacco smoke in and around the log.

Should I be worried? Or should I check back in the spring?

Active Gyms fruit from late summer to early fall for the most part in your area. I don't see or hear much of them in spring. I think you saw your fruiting for the season but it never hurts to look.

You're not going to harm the mycelium by picking. The log does a good job of protecting it.

Late summer/early fall = mid August lol you're right!

I have heard that gyms are very punctual with their fruiting. Like, same week out of the year it'll fruit. So I'll start checking early August. I will still check in the spring, but something tells me it's a once a year kind of deal. Still not bad.

I've read Halloween is the best time for gyms (maybe not in ct) so I will probably go on one last looong hunt this year. Already know where. Logs everywhere. Thanks for the help!
