Has anyone tried growing cubensis on a bran substrate? Just wondering, I searched the forums and saw some posts with bran for other mushrooms, any ideas?

yes I have seen this. Browsing the grow log yesterday. Believe the grower was retired but had quite good things to say about it. TMC has a recipe. Sorry don't remember his name but go look around try "retired grow" or something like that

Coming from The Mushroom Cultivater Brown rice flour 87.8% dry matter 9.1% protein 2.0% fat 1.1% fiber 74.5% n-free extract 1.1% total minerals .04% calcium .25% phosphurous 1.46% nitrogen Wheat Bran (all analyses) 90.1& total dry matter 16.9% protein 4.6% fat 9.6% fiber 52.9% n-free extract 6.1% total minerals .14 calcium 1.29% phosphurous 2.7% nitrogen 1.23% potasium I understand this may not be what you were looking for, but it shows the comparisons. What I found was on pg. 54 4 parts sawdust (hard wood) 1 part bran Soak sawdust in water for at least 20 hours, drain, then mix with bran. If mixture has proper water content, a firm squeeze will result in a few drops between fingers. Fill material to neck of jar. Strerilize 60-90 minutes at 15 psi. Once cooled inoculate from agar, liquid emusion, or grain.

Interesting, might try this once I have more experience under my belt. When it says "liquid emulsion" does that mean a spore syringe?

If you use sawdust, the whole thing is shakeable and separable. Otherwise you would get a cake, like a PF cake. Since it is to be used as spawn, having a cake would require the extra step of crushing it. Besides, this is a spawn for wood loving species, so wood can only be beneficial to have in the spawn.

Alright, well 5 days later I see the first growth with my wheat bran jars. The bran has been ground into a flour in one jar, but the other 2 are bran as you buy it in the store. There is not noticeable difference in the growth between the ground and unground bran, but it is certainly colonizing faster than the BRF cakes I innoculated on the same day (I barely see growth, it is either miniscule or im having wishful hallucinations*).
*shitty pun intended
