Athens, GA ID request (I'll try to do it correctly tonight :)

Species # 1
Found this one today growing in the woods, mostly hardwoods, single specimen. Lots of chewed up russula nearby. Growing directly from ground.
Gills: not attached; pale cream
Stem: 11cm x .7cm
Cap: 6.5 cm across; creamy color with grey areas
Spore print color: taking now
I didn't think too much of this one. I picked it this afternoon, brought it inside and examined it tonight. What caught my attention was the very, very bright purple right under the cap.

Species 2: I just thought these were cool. Pretty nondescript but I'd still like to know what they are. Found them in the same area on two separate days. At the time, each had only one, and two mushrooms, respectively. I brought the whole pine cone in and put them in one of my terrariums. Today I checked them and they are growing and sprouting like mad.

And, as always! Thank you for helping with my new hobby!

And it is a Shortneedled or Loblolly Pine cone.

Thanks I'm in GA and we don't have any douglas fir or fur trees here. As for the first ones, don't the gills appear free? Keys for Xerula say they are attached.
Trust me - I know very, very little and could be totally wrong. I'm just trying to match y'all's IDs with my books/keys/etc. to help me learn to identify myself.

I know! Nearly 3 am here & I can't put the books down. I need to let it go for tonight. I have six acres mostly wooded that I've searched every day for a month. have found tons of pluteus, russula and others I've posted on here. This one was just standing tall all by itself. It has almost a silvery metallic sheen to it. Didn't notice the purple when I picked it (was in a hurry) but when I was going to cut the stem to do the print, was like, WTF?
Anyway, I need to go to bed. Maybe someone can figure this out for me tonight

Wow!! Pine cone mushrooms sprouting in your terrarium... That is rad. Could you possibly get a shot of that in situ. I would love to see that.

I cant get the enlarger to work so I just took a wild guess at the first one but looks like there is slight remnants of an annulus and your right the gills are not attached so maybe a Chlorophyllum or Lepiota of some sort. with the purplish stalk. It looks as if the base has beern broke off. What kind of pine cone is that. The literature says its common on douglas fur.

Useful thing about keeping herptiles is the terrarium requires humidity control that may well be suited to mushroom cultivation. Since you're in Georgia that may not be a huge difference to you idk, but it is here!

The first mushroom appears to be an Amanita in the "death angel" group. Amanita bisporigea, Amanita virosa, or Amanita verna. The ring on the stipe seems too solid for bisporigea, so it could be one of the latter species, and we would need to see the tissue at the base of the stipe for accurate ID.

Totally would: the terrarium will reduce the humidity to a level both the herps and the mushroom could survive

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Thank you all for the IDs and advice! didn't have time to post pics today, but will tomorrow. Not much to them, actually. Couple of big ass jars with lids, typical layers, gravel, sand, etc. started out with 'storebought' plants, most died, gradually replaced with finds from my property. Cool moss and ferns and such. And now two mushroom spawning pinecones!

quite a few years back, my roommate and I put together a vivarium that was half filled with water, but also had all kinds of wood that we had found that was sticking out of the water so that small amphibious critters could reside there as well. After about 2 months, one of the pieces of wood we had found started sprouting mushrooms. It was really neat! I guess the mycelium enjoyed the warm (80°f) and humid environment.
