Physical barrier - copper. Word is they will not cross copper, but prolly needs to be a strip as opposed to a wire. Then make sure your defended area is free of mollusks and their eggs, as well as you can. I have used pieces of duct/sheet metal with some good effect. My theory is that they don't like to climb over sharp edges or galvi...
I'm gonna try the "copper" all i have is heavy gauge wire.

I'm going to be trying iron phosphate to control my snails the next time I get a garden in, and if I have any trouble with them in my oysters.

Worth a try, maybe mount that multistrand on top of buried boards so they can't slide under... But the bigger challenge is evicting critters in the litter... The smallest mollusk has a huge appetite.
Before I plant an area I try to physically isolate it with no hideys for the critters, then put MULTIPLE barriers. I've had virtually no luck with diatomaceous earth, no good sprinkling it everywhere on your stuff, makes a mess on your plants/whatever and washes away, probably better applied as a thick line up against the outside of a physical barrier where it can persist longer. If you have or get some it might help take out critters already inside the defended perimeter, it's supposed to pierce their slimy little hides and they leak to death. Sluggo and other snail bait products strike me as being too toxic to want to have near where there's something I'm going to consume, though I have used the flaky corey's stuff in a wider thick strip at the base of my raised beds to discourage critters from ascending.
I dream of a defended castle setup - de or some sharp sand in a strip, an outer copper wall, an inner moat, another copper wall... And sterilize everything inside the perimeter. Probably work for two weeks before they breach the defenses and lay their eggs. This is the kinda thing that can cause you to come unhinged mentally. LOL

Sluggo is iron phasphate and [probably; not on the label, though on the labels of similar baits overseas] a chelating agent. There is so little iron in it that even if all freed to elemental iron and absorbed, you'd probably have to eat the whole 1lb box to be poisoned.

Doh, didn't know that... Sounds like I need to research what's really in these things, always assume it's nasty stuff if it's from big corp...
Roundup breaks down completely in a short time and is completely nontoxic, eh?

also if you want them to die happy, put a few little dishes out and pour beer in it. The slugs will get drunk and drown in it.

The size of the corporation affects the physical properties of a chemical compound?

One might be able to argue that. Monsanto. Bayer. Novartis. You get the idea.

In reference to copper barriers, it has to be a strip and not a wire. They'll go over the wire. Sluggo has had an impact for me but the best trap is still beer. Set out a dish of beer and they will gladly drown in it and ignore your shrooms.
On another note, I found ovoids in portland today, WOOT!
Even saved some mycelium. That makes three cultures I've got going; azzies, cyans, and ovoids.
Man are these things meaty!

Ooooh, just recalled this one... If you're gonna use beer, put a bit in old soda bottles or something you can cap up and toss. I bet if you put soda bottles with the labels on (so it's darky, like) they'd probably love to use 'em as hideys, beer or not. Leave 'em for a day or two, cap'em and toss 'em.
They're mostly nocturnal.
If you leave a board(s) they will shelter under there, too, do a raid during the day.

What are your thoughts about possible negative impacts of non-native species introduction?
I am talking about all of the spreading of Psilocybe species that folks are doing.
And, what negative impacts can you imagine might happen?

I've actually been thinking about this all day. What would happen if I introduced ovoids to debris piles in a stream I know of?
I can't bring myself to do it, based mostly on I don't know what would happen.
How long before they hitch a ride on me and introduce themselves?

The main thing that I imagine happening is a species taking over habitat of a native and pushing the native out.
It would be sad if cyans were to be pushed out.

Dude, that won't happen, and if it does, then it means that ovoids would be so aggresive they would end up being like everywhere, and it would be pretty awesome if you ask me. But naw that won't happen.

I see what you're saying. Cyans are tough, I don't see them getting pushed around so easy.
I was more worried about other native species, rural as apposed to urban.
In town I'm going to go willy nilly with these ovioid and cyan spores. I was even thinking of trying to introduce azzies to the beach grass and reeds they planted in those silly looking overflow catches. That'd be a hoot.
I figure every time I go out into the woods I'm dragging active specie's spores with me, as do many people. If they were going to take over anything the would have by now.
I'm also a speculating newb.
