I won't eat a Verpa that hasn't had the everliving shit fried out of it, same as any Gyromitra or Helvella.

Tasty shit though.

And I thought I was brave because Amanitas don't scare me. You people have me beat ALL to hell. Lol.

Oh; I can't bring myself to fuck with most Amanitas. No matter how much I know I'm being stupid and prejudiced.

Yes, except that that brings to mind the fact that the television show by that name ever existed, and so I say bah! Bah I say!

That's the one group of Amanita to which I bring total confidence. For food or horrible night on the junk, those are just good stuff.

Yea...  Took me a while before it dawned on me one year
while looking at some pressed flower art.

The really good stuff comes in a clear container about the size of a coffee can.
After you use it, you put it back in the container with the lid off, nuke it in the micrwoave for a minute or two, stop/shake/repeat,
until the little blue pebbles become white like the rest.
Then it's good to go again.
Awesome stuff.

Thanks for the info. really good to know. You know how much it costs approximately?

I can't remember exactly, but I'm sure I paid less than a $20 bill.
If it was more than that, I probably wouldn't have bothered
unless I was growing or something.

I might be near the Michael's (craft store I nabbed it at) this week.
If I go there, I'll check for ya.

Some things I saw in the woods. The brain mushroom was funky... and the little brown ones had me chomping at the bit thinking they were azzies until I looked much closer.

good to know, thanks. where would you pick that up? a garden store? craft shop?

Glass jars keep all moisture out as well. Unlike plastic zip bags.

That depends on the jar. I've had specimens go moldy on me in tightly closed glass jars before, which is why I like to keep a desiccant in with them now.

Poor absorption from silica...  Really?  Huh.
That is good to hear.
I'll have to try a side by side and see what works better.

I'm not big on using the oven because ever since I met PF and he
went on and on about how psilocin is heat sensitive and degrades really easy...
I just figure, why add heat and risk losing any potency at all.

Old habits die hard, I guess.

Yup yup. I know all of that. But thanks. I am wondering, specifically, has
anyone ever read about this or know about it. This and it being morels having
small concentrations of gyromitrin.

Once upon a time, I think I read what you're talking about.
Pretty sure it ended up being miss-identification (hence the lack of info about it).
I've eaten morels raw and in quantity, just for shits 'n giggles,
and my liver and guts are fine and dandy.
(I lived in Indiana <YUCK!> for a year and half and hunted the shit out of morels in the midwest.)

Damn right, everything is good with bacon!

You know...  I'm not sure why I do some of the stupid shit I do.
I also ate the hell out of raw chants before.  Those fuckers are
peppery as hell, burn, and taste like shit if they aren't cooked.
As I'm typing this and thinking about it, Jet, I think...  Maybe...
As a 'foodie'/extremely amateur chef, I like to try all sorts of
stuff that I cook in it's raw form at some point - I dunno why, I
just do.  You'd probably be shocked if I told you some of the strange stuff I've eaten.
I'd probably run neck and neck with Andrew Zimmern on Bizarre Foods.
Yea.  I'm weird.
But, I guess, if I wasn't weird and we weren't weird; the shroomery probably wouldn't exist.

Morels are insanely delicious. Every other mushroom I've ever eaten doesn't compare.

I know a place that has some beefy Helvella sp so I'm thinking of cooking a couple up to see how I like them.

I'm still battling the slugs. It's crazy how many are in my 4 cereal bowl sized beer traps every morning and many still get to the fruits. Maybe thats why only one out of four of my house projects is fruiting this year. they no the slugs are coming for them. Kidding. It's just lame that it comes to this. F N slugs.
