I agree with Mr. Piggy that it is more likely rural wood-loving species of the non active variety which would be up against p. ovoideocystidiata, and I don't think they have anything to worry about either. We can hypothesize, but it is absurd to think any species would go extinct from the introduction of ovoids. It is just as likely that a native species would perform the task. I dream of the day Gymnopus dryophilus and all Armillaria species are brought to extinction by ovoids.

I'd rather have cyans than ovoids any day. I don't see it causing much of an issue. They all do pretty much the same job environmentally. Hopefully, one will show up that's parasitic on galerina

Also, I like cyans more than ovoids too.

I would rather have ovoids by far... There are cyans and allenii everywhere around here but ive never found ovoids.
Ive only ever seen them found in Portland when in Oregon though. Im still not sure if they have spread anywhere outside of portland, maybe the result of a large introduction of the species at one point there. I dont know but ive never heard of them being found anywhere near the coast. Ive been looking alot.

Yeah i really want to find some just out in the woods some day. Would be raaaaad. I've had a few dreams of hunting mushrooms, and they are almost always for east or southern variety. My favorite hunting dream was in a Georgia neighborhood, southern folk lending an eye and ear (in dreams hearing is a big party of hunting...who knew!?) Was such a badass dream.

look! look! (s)he's(?) bruising blue! is (s)he magic?
I wouldn't mind having more ovoids around, but I'd be pissed if they "took over" since they're not as strong IME.

They're not going to. And thank you to everyone who wiscokidded the PNW. It is a dream coming true for me! And I don't care about anyone else. Not my childrens children who still wouldn't ever notice a dent in the cyan native population of species ....though we can all hold hands and hum for the quick eradication of all Cortinarius.

Honestly I believe psilocybes cannot and will not be contained as long as we have humans and vehicles going to and fro, as well as plants being distributed, hardwoods being imported/exported, etc.
It's already happening IMO.
For example. I found allenii in a little po dunk town. Just about everybody in this town is mushtarded. Save a few. I did not introduce them nor did the saved few. It just seems extremely unlikely it was done on purpose. Especially given the location. I could be way off base here, I dunno.

They are growing wild I bet Brad. I noticed a huge increase in allenii patches in my area this year, alot of them are growing in just grass so definately not cultivated.
Ive found 3 new alenii patches so far this year along with my older patches and the stem butts are growing strongly on fresh wood chips. I think there will be alot more alenii around here soon

I think it would be an epic battle, though. It would be like fictional stories coming true if a battle between ovoids and cyans were to break out. However, below I have explained my theory.
The mouth of the Columbia, the Puget Sound and the entire West Coast are cesspools of activity for all of our favoritve potent Psilocybe species.
There are surely numerous undiscovered patches for every single one uncoverd up and down the west coast. The P. cyanscens and P. azurescens foothold is a force to be reckoned with. The introduction of another woodloving species would be just more fun to be had, and it would take a billion years to tackle even an insignificant portion of the beasts of the dune grasses and mulch beds thousands of miles long.

This is what I was thinking myself.
A side note. I think it is sad that some of you guys would be ok with cyans and azzies being over run simply because you have not seen ovoids.
I know where some are. Ill show you if that will change your mind.

When you start finding massive patches of ovoids in dune grasses with no azzies or cyans, gimme a call and I'll talk you down.

I think they might stand a chance. I wanna see them fight for a mulch bed. The ovoids are already going feral I guess.

I really really like ovoids. I like having a second season for picking, I like having access to mushrooms in the summer time. They are not significantly weaker than cyans I my opinion. They actually seam to vary a lot more in my experience. I think they are a very welcome addition.
