Anyone know what these are? (Central Valley Find)
    #19013623 - 10/22/13 12:49 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I thought these might be some kind of pan at first, but now I'm really not sure. Anyone have an ID for them? They have slight vertical striations along the pileus and white spots along the top of the dark knob, but the colors indicate pan. cincts or something similar. Found in new grass with healthy watering and NO dry thatch, yards which contain other fungi due to night-watering, in small clusters or gregariously across sections of yard where the substrate is more favorable. I've found a few patches here, but haven't seen ANYTHING like this in forums in central Fresno or elsewhere, and they aren't under the look-alikes for Pans. No find for psythrella, either. The spores are black, and the gills liquefy when performing a print on tin foil under a cup.

Here's a shot of the specimen overall:

This is the specimen from a different angle. Notice the frail, black gills and the frail cap:

I bisected the specimen to show its gill attachment and cap shape:

Compare with Coprinellus micaceus.

Coprinellus species
