Idaho Cops Kill Dog In Front of Two-Year-Old Boy

October 22, 2013 | http://www.alternet.org/idaho-cops-kill-dog-front-two-year-old-boy Idaho police shot and killed a dog over the weekend in front of a two-year-old boy. While the cops from Boise, Idaho say they felt threatened by the dog, named Kita, the owners of the dog dispute those claims, according to a report by Idaho media outlet KTVB.
On Sunday, two officers were investigating a theft in the area where Kita and the Stropkai family lived. Gabrielle Stropkai said she let her dog out to go to the bathroom. The police say they were threatened by the dog because she was running towards them. “The dog came upon the officers quickly and they felt it was about to bite them. This is a very dog friendly community,” Deputy Chief Pete Ritter said in a statement to KTVB. “Dogs running loose are a safety risk, for people and for the dogs. This was a very unfortunate situation for everyone involved.”
The family and some other witnesses have a different story. “ She was walking by and went 'ruff ruff' just a couple of little ruffs and that's when she was walking by she didn't jump at him or anything,” said one witness, though other witnesses said the dog was “barking and snarling.”
Gabrielle Stropkai said the cops quickly decided to shoot Kita. “In about five seconds he pulled his weapon, asked whose dog it was, and shot her in the back of the head,” she told KTVB. This was all done in front of her two-year-old son named Hayden.

i dont think these police realize that the people that they think they claim dominion over have had about enough of this bull shit, police departments are either completely inept in there psychological screening or are putting these psychopaths/cowards in power on pourpase and one of these days people are going to realize we have more guns and more people, you can only arrest and shoot so many innocents before people rise up.

I understand it's hard to charge someone with something like murder for shooting an animal but I seriously wish it wasn't just "ok" to just walk up and blast someone's pet in the back of the head. I'm sure the cop wouldn't like it if someone did that to him.
Without getting a charge similar to murder, but reckless animal genocide is a better term, does anyone see anything wrong with a police man getting e.g. 10 months in jail or prison for shooting someone elses pet in the back of the head without a very just cause? At the very least that's warrant less destruction of someone elses property, aggressive behaviour, attempted assault on the owner of the animal if the person felt threatened by the actions of the police officer shooting their pet. That sounds like a few good years to me, especially for an officer of the law, who should know much better.
Couldn't they have tried pepper spraying the dog first to see if it'd quit? Then if it didn't shoot it in the back of the head? I mean..................... how cruel

Why is the automatic default that the cops are lying and not the owners and their friends? Or Alternet, for that matter?

I'm pretty sure the penalty for ignoring a city ordinance is a fine, not a bullet in the back of the head.
Except in the case where the dog was actually attacking one of the pigs (or another individual), the response was way way way out of line.

that a: a cop (in America) can "be scared for his life" and shoot a dog down for the dog thinking the cop is an intruder, and everyone gets up in arms about the event; and b: a person (in America) can shoot another human being, whom is presumed to be an intruder, and have it amended under the constitution, but no one will spare a breath about it.

But you do not know that it wasn't. The knee jerk response from the idiots at Alternet and many users here is that the cops are lying and were totally in the wrong. Facts do not concern them. They do not care about facts that get in the way of a narrative they prefer. Their favorite narrative being that cops suck. Do you really think cops go out looking to shoot random non-menacing stray dogs?

dogs are always gonna to do the predictable dog thing, and try and fend off "intruders", which were the cops in this case.

What are you talking about? I cannot parse this.
a. The dog was running loose and not in his house. Intrude into what? The outdoors? b. Human beings who shoot real intruders, i.e.ones who entered their domicile, get prosecuted in quite a few stupid states.
I have no idea what the reference to a constitutional amendment is all about

How were the cops intruding when they were outside where the dog was only supposed to be on leash?

Only Zappa would argue for a dog getting shot in the head for not being on a leash.

they're supposed to be on a leash, because why? because people are afraid of dogs protecting their servants from innocent people, aside from only intruders? sounds sorta like how that dad shot his son, for mistaking him for an intruder.
but anyways, i'm pointing out the hypocrisy of this situation. not trying to make an argument for dog rights.
even if the "being scared of dogs" thing, is stupid. i'd be more afraid of the police.
