Chunky vermiculite
    #19014029 - 10/22/13 02:32 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I have a quick question, I bought some verm from my hydroponics store and it came a little thicker than I've seen in most guides
I bought two bags and I'm grinding one in a coffee grinder right now but I'm just wondering if it even matters?

I generally prefer coarser to finer.. Especially if you're doing a coco coir substrate; or BRF for that matter.

Hmm, well alright
I just thought it should be since the brown rice is grinded as well

The brown rice is probably easier to digest when ground up, juxtaposed to uncooked rice form.

In bulk grows done with coir and vermiculite, the coir is quite fine, and you have to find a ratio of verm that gives it a good texture, so, in that light, the verm is there for both moisture retention and texturizer for the substrate to help myc growth.  :sporedrop:

What you using it for? For BRF cakes you want fine vermiculite.

For brf cakes you want IMO field capacity with whatever verm you use. Adjust water accordingly. Shit even stay on the dry side(not too dry though) since you're dunking the cakes after birthing them anyway.
