IIRC Pluteus spores don't germinate easily unless they're very fresh, and P. petasatus likes this kind of pseudo-terrestrial habitat much more than other members of the genus, so sadly I think that plan won't work out.

Also I think it's excellent form to update threads a week or two later if that's how long it takes to figure out the mushroom's identity. Thank you!

it'll be fun to watch just to see what all pops up there over time. I'll be checking in the spring
