Has anyone (personally) ever had any success using shredded bamboo in their substrates for oyster mushrooms?

I have read about it, but its the only mushroom that is ever mentioned...

Having no luck in the cultivation forum with this question, thought I'd slip it in here to see if I might have more luck finding someone who has experimented with bamboo....

My oysters on bamboo failed, but I think it was my absence more than anything. They died back from lack of water and simply never came back.

I'd like to try it again though, when I get some more bamboo.

I live on a bamboo farm and there is always tons of bamboo being discarded here.... they drag it up to the orchard, pile it for a few years and then burn it... which is awesome, best bonfires ever... we put it to all kinds of uses... this year they hired a local shredder to come out and shred a huge pile for mulching... its got me thinking about mushrooms on bamboo again....

I am running several trays of spawn on cardboard from this last oyster haul and am preparing to try several substrate mixes... We have lots of rye grass... wheat... tons of grasses period.... corn stalks and debris from this season... lots of sunflower stalks... saving coffee grounds...

This is my first attempt to grow oyster mushrooms.. never felt the need to grow them as Its pretty easy finding them... but I want to refine some cultivation methods to further my self-education... study and observe closer... share.

If I could pour some concrete here at the place, I'd put in some in-ground. I've been needing some suitable arrow bamboo anyway.

I don't let the roots of any of them so much as touch the soil without suitable containment though.

There are clumping bamboos that don't run.

Runners definitely need containment, there are barriers for that.

I had been looking into arrow making again recently... the one native species in the US was regularly used by natives for making stick bows...river cane.. not the reed.. its a runner... I don't think we have that one here.... there's over 400 varieties here.

Unfortunately for that purpose, the wall thickness to diameter and rate of taper are the foremost considerations, so the running/spreading habits have to be an afterthought.

Have you considered solid bamboos?

Ovoids seem to like bamboo quite a bit.

And just like magic, I find two ovoid pins growing directly off of bamboo.

Awesome and interesting!

Did you introduce them to the bamboo?
Or did they find their own way there?

Looks like they don't care if its shredded!
