I need to know if this is indeed amanita muscaria, and how to prepare it.

Location: Pacific Northwest, in the woods. Cap: Red. Yellow warts. Stem: Bulbous. Gills: White, with some partial veils.

Can I still eat the one's that have been sitting out and turning brown? Why are all of the warts on the cap yellow and not white? Is there a viable market out there for such things?
I plan on drying them in the oven on a low setting. Does this work?
Thankyou

Not an expert but those definitely don't look like amanitas

Cut them up to dry them out faster. I don't know if the oven idea is good or bad.
But definitely cut them up.

How so? It's red looks like an egg at small size, covered completely by a warty veil, and when larger it has pieces of the veil covering it. White gills, white stem, etc.
I can't think of anything else they'd be.

Can these be marketable if they're cut into pieces, though?

They look like dirty Amanita muscaria var flavivolvata with the warts washed or wiped off and the basal bulbs worn nearly smooth.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Those things look nasty, and don't look like any muscaria I have seen. Maybe Amanita, but I'd wait 4 a TI.

In so far as they're marketable at all. It's certainly a smallish niche market.

Yep. They were traveling in a bag for a day while hiking. Attempted to wash the enormous amount of dirt off without removing the aesthetic, which was nearly impossible.

There is a small market I guess on the internet. But they go real cheap, $20 an ounce dried. Most people don't like them. They made me want to puke and pass out the one time I tried them.

you might consider going to the top of the page right under the Shroomery banner, select Mushroom info > Hunting Mushrooms > Amanita Species, and read up, and then read the sticky about posting ID requests and read a few... the more info, the better.
edit: next time please provide multiple shot of mature specimens including the base of the stipe for Amanita ID's, and please don't wash them ahead of taking pics.

First you post an asinine picture, and then tell me they're 'ugly' based on a subjective criteria (not to mention, it doesn't matter if they're ugly, it matters if they contain muscimol or ibotenic acid...) Any better way to spend your time?

Might as well make a few hundred dollars, then.

Nothing better than finding money lying on the ground (or growing from it in this case). Good luck to you.

1st -I said they look nasty, not ugly... 2nd -Your picture looks WAY worse than mine (at least mines in focus). 3rd -All I really wanted was for you to make sure that a TI gave it a look before you ate something you shouldn't... 4th -Yeah, I do have better ways of spending my time. But I find posting on your thread to be much more engaging and interesting.

For its psychoactive properties, I sauté less than I would for most mushrooms in unfiltered olive oil and minced shallots and try to bring their temp to 160-180 F.. Then I freeze in foil and take smaller doses (up to 2 tbsp at most up to twice a day usually mixed into eggs) on cold, dark, energy-less days. I never tried to market them...
Any excess I've been able to collect I find a recipe to contain their deliciousness in and cook the activity out of 'em.

I don't see any white warts on the caps in your photo and the caps appear more orange than red... again, I'm not an expert and dont know what they could be but those don't look like amanita muscaria IMO and I definitely wouldn't try marketing them if you can't get a positive id

There is only one red or orange capped Amanita on the west coast.
