The start to a new beginning
    #19010476 - 10/21/13 08:19 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hey all shroomery members. I am brand new to this site and I believe i posted in the wrong area (Journal) to get my questions/mushrooms identified. I apologize for my screw up but would love for you to take a quick peek and hopefully enlighten me a little. Thanks

MOD EDIT: Including post from users journal

Hello all shroomey members. This is my first post so please correct me if you feel the need.

Any who, I went out on my weekly forest hike with my dog today and came across an abundance of different species of mushrooms.  I normally stick to what i know but after passing mass amounts of mushrooms week in and week out and the desire to explore the psychedelic side of fungus i decided to go  ahead and pick a few (I forgot my camera, i only took a few of each species and will return if i landed anything worth wild). I will attach photos below and would love any identification on any of these mushroom. I can also provide more information or photos if needed. Thank you kindly

If i were to guess if any of them are psychedelic i am thinking its the one that is bluing on its cap or possibly the purple one?

I would say the one with blue had been manipulated with a marker or pen.  Since you are the one who found them in the woods, you are the culprit, and I ask for your confession.  The purple ones are probably Corinarius, which are harmfully toxic.

Your two "likely" suspects are a Laccaria and a Stropharia.  The bluing you see on your Stropharia is not natural.  I don't know what it is.  It looks like someone drew on it or something.  Sorry for the bad news.

For the record, your table also contains a variety of species. Including a couple Cortinarius, some Hebeloma, Inocybe, Hypholoma, Conocybe, and Agaricus.

None except perhaps the Agaricus are considered edibles or hallucinogens.  (The Agaricus might be edible) Keep hunting!

Edit:  There appear to be some Armillaria there too.  That might be edible as well.

These were in no way manipulated! I am trying to learn not trick people. I just went back to where i found them and got all of what i could before running out of light...  Another turned blue minutes after picking while the majority of them did not blue at all.. maybe the bluing is from bruising? I took a few more pictures and let me know your thoughts..

Also i couldn't imagine anyone pulling a prank by dying them... They were DEEP in the forest and even extremely hard for me to find.

I would think those are a Stropharia. Maybe the blue is explained in this earlier topic: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19009708/page/1

It would be the second or third blue stropharia I've seen this month who's color looked much more vibrant than I had previously come to expect.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Yeah I believe you man, and it's something other than bruising or bluing and not of your doing.

These look more like Stropharia ambigua than any of the blueish species to me - no?  I think its something unnatural.

That's not to say Thefuzzantor is trying to trick us - only that someone got to the mushrooms before him.

:2cents:

I edited your Original Post to include the information from your journal, to make things a little easier.

That's some weird staining, especially if deep in the woods away from humans. In any case these aren't active.

Odd prank/thing to do but i suppose it's possible. I am taking a spore print right now and will repost with pics later to see if that will help anyone ID this specie. All and all you guys don't think its safe or worth wild?

There is blue pigment all over the table. If they rested on the table that explains it.
