Reflection Essays for College?
    #19009988 - 10/21/13 06:43 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I have 3 essays due on Thursday one of which is a reflection essay.  I'm supposed to write about some memory or event that had an overall learning experience that changed my life or some AH HAH! type moment. I thought the assignment sounded easy enough but now that I'm actually getting down to try and write it I realize that almost all my moments like that are ones I can't really write about...

If only this world wasn't so square,

I could write about the time I was lost on the side of the road on shrooms and realized when shit hits the fan its only you behind the eyes that can save you. :mushroom2:

The time I learned you cant trust anyone, being completely fucked out of my mind as a walking zombie at a rave thinking I took a "generic adderall".

I could write about getting too drunk fighting all my friends waking up with a concussion and realizing that just how fragile our minds actually are :box:

I could write about being in my hot tub candy flipping staring at a :aum: shaped moon smiling at the realization that no matter what everything happens exactly as its supposed to. and there is literally nothing to stress or worry about ever.

I could write about the time I took 3 super potent tabs of what I thought was LSD, and being saved by Touch of Grey and a golden retriever. :gd_icon:

Or maybe the time I was frying at Disneyland listening to Schism on space mountain seeing flashes of riding the ride with my dad and realizing how all the pieces fit up to this point. :lsd2:

.....

All my sober learning events are lame! :kingcrankey:

Anyone else run into this same problem or is it just me?

Share your learning events on dr00gz or in general.

i really think the reflection essays for college today are a little much.. how many 18 year olds have gone out and changed the damn world at that age.. seems a little much.

Agreed which is why my only experiences that come to mind are drug induced ones. Drugs tend to make things a little more dramatic/significant IME.

I think OP has lived my life.

From an instructional perspecive, maybe speak with your teacher and clear your ideas for the essay?  I teach college English Comp 1 & 2 and always open the semester with, "Someone will write the 'I was so drunk . . .' essay, and someone else will write the 'Marijuana should be legal because' essay, thus opening the floor to the stuff they want to talk about.  I don't really care about the subject; it's the process/format/structure/research/etc. that matters for the requirements of the class.

You can write about the time that you realized that you've seen Jurassic Park multiple times over the course of your life, but have no idea why a lawyer, 2 paleontologists, and a chaos theorist came to the island in the first place.
