Spores Under Microscope
    #19009779 - 10/21/13 06:09 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I recently purchased some syringes off of spores101.com, and wanted to look at them under my microscope, I looked at them uner 400x my maximum magnification and couldn't find actual spores, do I need a higher magnification? The strains were Golden Teacher and Alacabenzi cubensis.

400x-1000x is the norm for observing spores.

You should be able to see most spores with 400x, but really, to see a lot of the useful features needed for mushroom identification you will need 1000x.  If you are having trouble finding stuff start with lower magnifications and gradually zoom in.  You could take a print then scrape a small pile into the center of the slide and that should be pretty easy to find.

Thanks! I think part of the problem is also that spores101 uses a borderline ripoff amount of spores in their syringes:syringe:, some new ones are on the way from Spore Works and from what I hear and read they are actually reliable. I will never order from a non Shroomery sponsor again, I learned my lesson, and it cost me like <$50. Thank you again for the tips guys.
