Ebola, do you know what it is without Googling it? 1

So I'm at work today being trained by some girls who are in the 20-23 age range. We work in the microbiology/molecular biology department, so we all work with various pathogens. Somehow biosafety level 4 comes up and they didn't know anything about it. I tell them that's where they deal with stuff like Ebola, Marburg, Smallpox, etc.
These girls had never heard of Ebola. I was dumbfounded. I thought (almost) everyone knows what Ebola is. Apparently younger folks don't because there haven't been any major outbreaks that made the news since the 90s.
I'm about 95% sure this is an age related thing, so I'm making a poll to test that.

I know it's something I want nothing to do with, and that's about the extent of it. I don't know if it's a virus or bacteria, what it's symptoms are, how you get it (shitty food maybe?), or anything like that.
I know that every time I hear or see the word "ebola" I automatically sing it in my head like they do in those Ricola commercials.
Wait no, e. coli comes from shitty food.

I'll take your word for it. There was a book out on it not too many years ago that talked about Zaire, Marburg and the variety that cleaned out a colony of monkey test subjects in Virginia. That building was quarantined and nobody has been back in to my knowledge.

I've known about it for a long time. I'm about the same age as those girls. The difference between me and them is that I read The Hot Zone when I was like twelve. It was really scary, I was worried there would be a global pandemic for a while after reading it.

Its not an age related thing. Its because you were talking to girls. Girls (at least the majority) are intellectually inferior. Thats why men rule the world and know about ebola.

I may be rude but based on the majority of girls I've met in my life most of them don't know what ebola is because its a perfect topic for a first date/casual conversation.
The main reason I stayed for +4 years with my gf is because she answered what ebola is before I stuck my penis in her cavities.

I see. It's wrong to unfairly judge an entire gender due to the actions of a few - I am aware of the unintelligent/ignorant women that you talk about, but in the same way, I've also encountered a large number of the male equivalent; all brauns and no brains. The guys who act "alpha" and bully "nerds", the guys who treat other people and women like objects, trophies or trash, the guys who are only focused on sex, money and drugs and unwilling to study anything meaningful. I think it's likely that there are also a large number of men who are not aware of Ebola. Within both genders, there are a lot of dumb people, as well as smart people, but always a smaller percentage of smarter people. The dumb/ignorant people take the public spotlight, since they are the noisy majority. All the while, the smarter few have more important things to do than waste time in that spotlight. As a result there appear to be fewer smarter people than there really are.

We had to read the book The Hotzone in middle school here. Worst disease you could imagine. Bleeding from all your orfices and having your organs liquefied; horrible, horrible stuff. If there was ever another widespread outbreak I think I would rather shoot myself than have to deal with the possibility of catching ebola

I heard that topic presented in my biology class I was a student for for atleast 3 months. I first signed up a year ago before I was planning on ditching that class and attending a party instead. There was a party I heard of down the st and I was going to drop my books and go there rather than study, for I was the kind of student that would sneak out of the classroom so I can find something considered "fun". For instance sometimes I would see someone just similar to myself, just left class and wanted to hang out with me, because everyone on the campus knew me. Everyone would know exactly who I was and they would talk about me all day long. They would get into these groups and discuss my name and talk about how perfect I was. Because they saw I was something of a saint much better than they were in atleast a moral dimension, for some people are naturally more prone to be inclined to be viewed as a saintly figure. Noone ever objects to me stating this fact, noone ever has any problem with me defining myself as a saint, atleast as far as I know, who knows perhaps one day someone will assume different.
That disease doesn't exist just so you know. I remember that they just were saying it did when it really didn't, they invented a lie which presented the possibility of it existing but it didn't. Not until 1984 I believe. Then it was created and everyone wished to avoid it.

And yes I knew what Ebola was, though I'm a bit younger than those who've experienced it. I'd heard the name drop a few times over the years so one day just looked it up (along with a few other infections/diseases you hear about but never see, like Lupus).

I know from watching scary ass documentaries and also this song: I'm 19. I heard about it could be spread through black market monkey meat into Europe. 85-95% mortality rate with treatment I think.
Colonized in your cells, sickness, constant shifting Too late to be afraid, organs, liquefying Blood spews from every hole, in your, lifeless body Masses fall from disease, plaguing, every human, still contagious
Hemorrhagic virus which is no longer contained Rate of death grows faster, no one is immune Thousands perish daily, dead blood flowing Panicked sheep all screaming, rampage of fleeing Fever racks your body, skin is burning Human beings slowly die One path to death, this outbreak Many ways we all can die Silent killers' drawing flies
Aftermath - final path Aftermath - final path
Mass extinction calling Human race is falling Corpses now dissolving World is rendered silent No more plagues of violence Mother Earth defiant
Now life exists, without humans New life unfolds, unimpeded See new days, Earth will flourish Worlds bane dead, free of cancer Pollution, will diminish Our plague ends, we won't return The sixth wave, of extinction Self destruct, we killed ourselves Horizon, sights still unseen Aftermath Aftermath of our extinction

No. Quite a bit more hardcore than that. You bleed out of your eyes and shit your intestines out, then the skin on your tongue sloughs off while you are vomiting black blood. A little bit more intense than the flu.
