Tool and shrooms

Hey all,
For my first trip I was thinking about what music I want to listen to and I think Tool's 10,000 Days album might be a good choice. Anyone else have experience with this?
There are some great tracks like Wings Pt. 2, Lost Keys, Right in Two... but then there are also some creepy undertones to some songs and I don't want to induce a bad trip.
Any advice? Other recommended music for first trip? (Besides Pink Floyd lol)
Thanks!

I used to avoid Tool during trips for the underlying darkness in it. Now it's alright, but just not my go-to. It provides for quite an experience though.

A Perfect Circle is fucking amazing on DMT.. I can listen to pretty much anything I enjoy sober on mushrooms and enjoy it more, or in a different way.
Tool is certainly more interesting than most 'rock' music, you can really get lost in it, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on your trip/personality.
I definitely wouldn't say a word against listening to it. It's good to listen to any music made by people who have tripped a lot IMO. I'm sure there are some exceptions.
Go for it, if you don't like it, play something else.

That is fucking sick, they are all 12-13.. That singer is gonna fucking awesome in a few years with a little more range/depth. They all make me insanely jealous though.

10,000 days is awesome to listen to, especially "Rosetta Stone". Trip and watch the "Reflection" video on youtube that was posted by Juno Nova. Coolest 11 minutes of your night.

or maybe Salival.
Also, "Money" ruins DSoTM for me.

Great, thanks a lot for the suggestions all! I really think music is such an important thing and I can't wait to experience it differently.
Recommended dose of P. Cub. dry to enjoy DSotM (first trip also)?

I have a ritual when it comes to tripping alone; I listen to the final songs of Lateralus with my eyes closed, I think it's their greatest achievement, and I agree, too much Tool can get too dark but that combination of Disposition Reflection and Triad is perfect! Beware of Faaip De Oiad though!

Ha, Faaip would have been much better had I not seen it coming on 2c-e one night. I know Tool too well for the darkness to bother me while tripping, but DRT is my favorite Tool montage as well, Triad's guitar solo makes my head explode every time.
Those kids are all amazing, but I have a soft spot for drummers and female vocalists, and jesus that kid really held them together. Danny's rhythms are nothing short of spectacular, so listening to him nail it was suprising. Hopefully, the singer and him will continue making music, cause she'll have a damn good voice after puberty.
As for my contribution, someone mentioned good sax players. Try this guy out, he uses his voice and a looping machine for everything, with a boss sax player alongside.

I spent part of an acid trip in the court of the Crimson King, and it was interesting. It took me a while to warm up to Fripp's style when I initially heard of them.
Mimosa is also good, but I recommend his earlier stuff, before he started saturating his material with pop samples.
ALSO, mutherfucking Protest the Hero just had their newest album leaked, but it'll be available in the next week I think. It. Is. Fantastic.
#3 is my favorite so far. PTH is great tripping music, but then again, so is the Black Dahlia Murder

alright, if anyone can give any info to what this might've been and where to obtain this itd be awesome. The only time I tripped to tool was one time, this guy who claimed to have known maynard personally, he burned this cd he claimed maynard gave to him, that apparently almost no one else had, it was AWESOME!!!! all completely acoustic, and im pretty sure it was mostly lataralus acoustic, with other songs. doesn't sound amazing I know, acoustic tool youd think would lack the power, but, one night I was tripping REALLY hard on accident, my girlfriend put that album on my headphones on repeat and just let me trip away, and it was a really great album to trip to. wish I could find it again, all the "acoustic" ones ive seen for sale online are not the same at all. just my small amt. of experience tripping with tool.

Hey there, I've experienced with that same album from tool and so far so good, I've loved both trips. There surely are some dark tones but just try (not struggle) to no get carried away and that's it. I can strongly recommend too a group called ''The Sizlacks'' they haven't got an album yet that I kno, but if you search them in youtube you'll find their 7 songs, and believe me, you won't need anything else in a loooong time. Just focus on enjoying and learning and have a great trip.

There's a string quartet Tool album.
Like that?
I've tripped to all their albums, and every time it seems like the emotional tones of the music and my in-the-moment interpretation of the lyrics perfectly sync up to my current state of mind... if that makes any sense.
If you like rock, try Tesseract. IMO, this whole album kicks ass and is next on my to trip to list. If you don't like it at first, just wait. It builds... AND there's a saxophone solo.
If metal, then you gotta try Mastodon's Crack the Skye. That whole album seems built around self reflection and altered states. The Czar is my personal favorite from this one.
For something softer, try Pink Floyd's the Wall.
Pretty Lights is another good artist if you also like electronic music. Saw him live at Identity fest in Houston and he killed it. I'd steer clear of the live stuff, however. Sometimes he uses sirens live and it could potentially freak some people out. (like myself)
Just dropping by to spread some love in the Shroomery. Don't know who I'd be without her.

Thanks for the great recommendations. I like ALL types of music except country, so I am very open to these suggestions!
Just wondering: has anyone experienced synesthesia while tripping and listening to music? I would love to feel this experience! Not sure if its mainly an LSD thing or if shrooms can provide this as well. If so, what dose?

No, that's why im curious, I dropped my ipod in the ocean one day, still have it, because I really feel il get my music off it one day. ive looked, cant find it the same album or songs online. and I wouldn't care what you did with it at all, didn't know the guy well enough to still know him either, and no its nothing like that string quartet, just like the band unplugged, it was really kind of calm and pretty, like I could listen to it without people complaining lol. if I ever get it back somehow, il give it to many people.
