Again the definition of mead is alcohol brewed from honey what your saying is like if I said adding cinnamon to rum makes it not rum anymore

Same thing with flavored vodka, it is still vodka

It is pretty clear that you have never brewed anything in your life

And this is from the link YOU posted LMFAO
Quote:

Mead (/ˈmiːd/; archaic and dialectal "medd"; from Old English "meodu"[1] German: Меt, Estonian: Mõdu,Polish: Miód pitny, Ukrainian: Мед, Russian: Мёд, Serbo-Croatian: Medovina/Медовина, Lithuanian: Midus, Persian: مِی mey), is an alcoholic beverage that is produced by fermenting a solution of honey and water.[2] It may also be produced by brewing a solution of water and honey with grain mash, which is strained before or after fermentation.[3] Depending on local traditions and specific recipes, it may be flavored with spices, fruit, or hops[

Well the off-gassing smells fucking awesome, but next time I will add just a little more hops and malt I think. It also has juniper berries in it

And I replaced some of the water with organic apple juice

I would have added more honey, but factored in the sweetness from the apple juice. And I boiled 75 raisins with the wort for a yeast nutrient

it's probably going to be a while, but i hope you report back on how it tastes. i've got all the supplies to make some mead, but im not sure what im using as nutrient. I might just use honey yeast and water. Donno yet

I would recommend the raisins if you want to keep it simple. It will still work with honey water and yeast, but if the yeast has a little nutrient it helps to get things started a little quicker. That way any foreign bacteria/mold that may have slipped in does not have a time to establish themselves before the environment becomes too toxic for them from the alcohol that the yeast is producing.

It is recommended to use about 25 raisins per gallon, but you could probably just eye it

Ok, you can call anything what you want to call it, but beer is not beer without hops and mead is not mead with hops. Additives aside, the only real difference between beer and mead is hops. I didn't realize there was a contention here

Beer doesn't even have to have hops at all to be beer. The difference is the sugar source, with beer it's a malted grain and with mead it's honey. If it's got both malt and honey, you could probably name it based on which there was more of.

It has about 3x as much honey as it does malt

Yeah that I definitely would not call a beer. I've never tried mead but I would like to.

I just read something recently about the whole agave thing being good for you was just a marketing ploy and that is is super processed and worse for you than sugar . . .

I think I might try one with molasses

And actually I used caramel malt which does not provide any fermentable sugars, used for flaver/color
