new guy questions

Hey everybody I recently ate mushrooms(fell in love with them) and knew that I wanted to grow my own based on how difficult it was to acquire them. This is my first post but ive been reading up on everybody's threads and its been very helpful. However there are a few questions I still have. I just purchased 12 8oz jars, vermiculite, syringe, and some whole wheat flour(couldnt find brf)
Will the whole wheat flour work? Will my jars be ok to colonize in a dark area at room temperature? Will painter's tape be ok to cover my holes on the jars? Will the cake method or the bulk method be better for me to obtain as much shrooms as possible?
Thank you guys very much if you can help me! (sorry if these questions are stupid)

It should.

Sure, but ambient/indirect light always helps.

No....painters tape is not breathable.
There is no need for tape when doing PF Tek cakes, the dry verm layer is your filter, but you can use micropore tape if you wish.

Spawning to bulk will get you the best bang for your buck.

Will this not require a pressure cooker?

PF Tek cakes never require a PC.
It is nice but not needed.

so I don't even need to cover the holes in the jar? I feel like that will increase the chance of contamination

The holes remain open and the dry verm layer exposed.
This will ensure the dry verm layer remains dry, which means nothing can colonize thru it.

FYI: You can make your own Brown Rice Flour with brown rice and a blender. For your first time, I'd hate for you to wander too far from the actual TEK. Watch and Learn.

well 2 nights ago I inoculated 12 jars(melted the plastic on the syringe while sterilizing but caught it quick enough to where the needle was just bent lol). After inoculating, I threw the 12 1/2 pint jars in a dresser drawer with 2 holes on the top of each where my inoculation points were. I was just wondering if that will dry out my cakes.

I did this and had success. Worth doing if you can't find any BRF for some reason. Just follow the TEK though!

I think you maybe have a lot of problems with the high gluten content of the whole wheat flour. It will also have a higher starch content which means more clumping. I really don't know if it will work, but it is worth a try.
I have trouble with access to BRF also, so I just use a coffee grinder and grind up long grain brown rice. This way I have fresh Brown Rice Flour.
