What is this white patch in monotub?

This was a first attempt at a monotub. I think I birthed it too early because it didn't look like it was a fully colonized cake yet, but it was starting to side pin (possibly from turning on the light to check on it? didn't open the lid of course). I forgot to use a bag to line the bottom for the substrate, or rather it wasn't in the tek I followed but now I know better.
Anyway, I birthed, it pinned, this is the first flush you see around the patch (malaysian strain btw). I thought it was just mycelium showing through the substrate but it looks suspect to me. If this is a contamination, are the fruits still safe?

Definitely Trich. You can try pouring salt on it to prevent the Trich from sporlating long enough to finish the flush. The mushrooms you'll pick will be ok too. However if it starts to turn green, then pick what you have and either trash it, or bury it outside and hope for the best.
Trich feeds off mushroom Myc so even if you delay that from sporing, it still busy underneath moving through.

Ok I thought it was bad news so I went ahead and picked the first flush. Good to know what it is exactly, thanks. This flush looks healthy but am I safe to assume I shouldn't even go for a second flush?
Is there a common problem that causes this? I misted and fanned once or twice a day, was I wrong to do that with a monotub?

Better yet, I think I may try to cut the cake down the middle and trash the bad half, does this sound feasible?

Definitely Trich.
Not necessarily. There are some other molds that start out like that they're just less common.
Not good though in any case.

I didn't realize there were other molds that had the "bubbling" effect Trich had like that.
I swear I learn something new from you daily.

Yeah it's gaining a greenish tint, definite trich then?
The second flush is already coming in strong, but I need to trash the whole thing right? Or is it salvageable by trashing the contaminated half? I suppose now it's probably way to late to save anything since it's been sitting in there, so I'm going to trash it to be safe, but I'm still curious..

Green tint would be Trich in this case. At this point you want to get it outside, as Trich spores are bad news for your grow area. You can try burying it outside and see if you continue to get pins.
Trich and Mushroom Myc both look white, so its nigh impossible to remove the contamination unfortunately.

It was already too late when you first saw it. Trich generally doesn't appear on the surface until it's colonized all the the available substrate below, usually it's doing that during the spawn run. So it could literally be everywhere in that substrate even though it's only in that small area on the surface.
