If fruiting cakes, Mist 3-5 times per day or Mist as needed. If substrate appears dry. Then give it a good fan. As we all know, Water evaporation off of the substrate is a major pinning trigger.
Mist directly, even with fruits. Fruits should become dry 45-60 minutes after each misting.
Fully colonized substrates are near 100% Contaminate resistant. But of course all substrates eventually become spent and Contaminate.

you forgot how to mist? spray water when needed. If to dry, mist. then fan. If not to dry, don't mist.

I don't mist at all until after the first flush. After I harvest the first flush I mist heavy every day or two

Ahhh I usually just mist tubs if they appear dry, usually I just make sure there's no pooling water.

Well, based upon the monotub format, you shouldn't have to mist at all (except for the initial setup) or fan. Drill two holes near the top and four close to the bottom -- just above the casing layer, and/or an inch or 1.5" above perlite level, if you're doing cakes -- should be sufficient. And stuff the holes with some sort of filter fiber, or polyfill, or whatever your choice.
Here's a link buddy:
http://www.shroomery.org/10677/Monotub
And here's a direct quote on the setup of it with regaurds to misting and aeration -- Quote:
properly msited with h2o2water and voila, made 6 holes, stuffed with polyfill, taped the lid on and now were waiting.
Now that's for the setup of my fruiting chamber. Also, that tek is based on casings, but you can STILL apply it to cakes as I suggested to make the bottom holes around an inch to 1.5" above perlite level. If you're doing cakes, it's highly encouraged that you fill your fruiting chamber with perlite. Perlite is an ideal choice in promoting the humidity you need, hints your question in relation to misting.
Doing this will effectively resolve your concern of misting, and you'll definitely lower your contam ratio. Always drill the holes as shown in RR's videos or in the monotub tek above and USE the polyfill!! Add your perlite (prep the perlite via RR's videos), and after adding the perlite, mist all four walls heavily, top the lid, and you're done mate! Sit back and relax!!
Cheers!!
Doing it this way WILL work, and you will significantly lower your risk of contamination, buddy.
